PK Grills SSB-X Original PKTX Outdoor Portable Aluminum Charcoal Grill and Smoker, Silver

I bought my first PK grill 45 years ago. Unfortunately I was a lot younger and dumber back then and ruined the bottom of it by not cleaning it and leaving it out in the rain year around. Took me forever to remember the name of it and find another but I never forgot how much I liked that grill. It cooks great and very portable. With a little care by dumping ashes and keeping it out of the rain it’ll last a lifetime or two. Only downside is the size. It’ll only cook one whole chicken, four good sized burgers or a pack and a half of hotdogs at once. A bigger cook will take longer but adding charcoal or wood chips is easy with the hinged grate. It cooks better and faster than other grills made of cheap sheet metal. The aluminum really radiates heat so everything is cooked evenly and quickly. Cooking steak is a dream. Doesn’t matter if you sear your meat first or last just watch your meat temperature for perfect steaks. So glad I was able to get another one.

My first experience with a PK grill was last year in my first steak contest. My partner brought his dad's PK Original. It was purchased in 1971. Amazing how long these grills will last. As soon as we set it up, three fellow contestants were making offers for it. NO DEAL. After the contest and some practice a few days earlier, I knew I wanted one. This grill was a perfect topper for my new deck. The little bit of assembly needed was very easy, and I am no handyman by any stretch. Although I had steaks in mind when I purchased it, my first cook was thick cut pork chops. I set it up for indirect heat, seared them first and set them on the far side to finish cooking. They turned out great. Sorry but no photo of the chops. I am already looking forward to some tailgating next season and hopefully a few steak cook-offs before then.When I ordered the grill, I was advised that it may take several weeks before it is shipped. It was shipped later that week. I couldn't ask for better results. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. The grill is great. I added the GrillGrates and heavy duty charcoal basket. There are bigger grills and there are less expensive grills but I don't think you will find a better grill and one that will last as long as this one. I hope you enjoy your PK Grill as much as I enjoy mine.

I already own a PK300 which I have cooked some amazing meals on. So I’m perusing Amazon one day a see the PKTX in matt red and said to the wife I would like to buy another PK and to my surprise she said go ahead. Anyway like the 300 the TX arrived well packaged and was super easy to assemble. After a few cooks I can confirm that the TX cooks basically the same as the 300. It’s just a lot less sophisticated than the 300. The old slide style vents are the biggest difference other than that they cook the same. Using the TX I find that I adjust the bottom vents at the beginning of the cook and do temp adjustments solely with the top vents. Another big difference is the ash containment system. In the 300 the ash hoods keep all the ash contained in the grill while the TX drops ash into small trays built into the stand. The working height of the TX is 30 inches same as the 300. If you want sophistication go with the 300 if you want fun and funky go with the TX. I enjoy them both!

Great Grill for the family! Controls temp will, easy to clean, all around great product.

I love my PK-TX it’s super easy to travel with and pack in my pickup. It keeps the coals hot like I need for my steak competition and cools down fast after dumping coals so I can pack up.

It is awesome grill and love it. Easy to use, easy to manage the heat control. It is perfect for small families and for competition.There are some improvement opportunities see below but still it is worth to have 5 stars1- I wish the charcoal grid was stainless steel for PKTX and also the charcoal grid’s height would be adjustable2- the ash trays (catchers) are small. There is a design improvement or find different solution for ash catchers

Best grill for steak out there. Heats up for a good sear. And gives you great control. Plus it travels well.

Just purchased this PK grill and all I can say is its well worth it. I bought the grill specifically for searing steaks. I purchased the Grill Grates at the same time and its a perfect combination.
