Horrific, intense and a must read!!
**Book Review**Night by Elie WieselHave you ever had this feeling that this incident has happened to you or you have felt terrible empathy towards something about which you have never heard, seen or experienced..??5 years ago, I read my first book on Holocaust, it was Schindler's Ark, and I felt that something was there which has drawn me towards this loss. Though I am yet to find that. This is my 4 book on Holocaust, and I can imagine the pain, terror and all those scared feeling about it.Night by Elie Wiesel is an autobiography about his survivorship through the Holocaust. He was transported, with thousands of other Jews to different concentration camps by which he and his life changed forever. He was a different person who though survived physically but not emotionally. His innocence was strangled and soul crushed under the inhuman acts.He wrote " never shall I forget. Those flames, which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget those moments, which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust".This book portrays the harsh, horrible realities of the Holocaust, the lowest nature of human, how cruel and excruciating they can act with each other.Few incidents described in the book are hard to believe as they exist far away from humanity.Besides all the sadness and horror this book also shows how in extreme conditions human being can survive like living on just coffee and bread, working for long hours in extreme winters. Survivor's themselves show the strong courage of living.I still believe that life After the Holocaust must have been equally hard due to emptiness and numbness which was tattooed on their souls."I wanted to see myself in the mirror hanging on the opposite wall. I had not seen myself since the ghetto. From the depths of the mirror, a corpse gazed back at me.The look in his eyes, as they stared into mine, has never left me."

Great book but Not so great translator.
Exposes horrendous side of humans. Gives an actual sense of the nonsense that was going on at that time, which the numbers(1.9 million dead) dont give. Deeply moving, but only if you choose to ignore the thousands of spelling mistakes.

Touching story, poignant and jarring
The star I took away is not for the book, but for the many printing errors.

Excellent!!!
Engrossing and very fast paced. The unimaginable atrocities makes one wonder how can a human being turn into such a heartless beast towards another fellow human being. But alas, such tales of suffering are strewn all over our history and even in the present. 'Humanity' has been a rarity in human nature. Nevertheless it exists only to reiterate that 'exception proves the rule'.

low quality pages, spelling errors and content missing
Pages are low in quality. Some contents are missing. A lot of spelling errors. But it does not prevent us from easy reading and understanding.

Misprinted words, misprinted lines
The book is a copy. Many words are misprinted. And the new words have no meaning. For example, "the" becomes "dm". The entire line gets changed and makes no sense. I had to download a pdf of the book to make sense of what the line is trying to say.A line in the original book-" I believe on that day, I first became aware of the mystery of inquity whose exposure marked the end of an era and the beginning of another" was changed to this in the book delivered to me-"I believe that on that day I touched for the first time upon the mystery of inquity whole revelation was to mark the end one era and the beginning of another." And no, I have not forgotten any words. This is the actual line from the book I purchased. There are many such instances in the book.

2.5*
There is no doubt that the stories of genocide survivors need to be told. Elie Wiesel’s story is no exception. I am full of admiration for those who are willing to relive their horrifying experiences in order to educate the masses. What he endured was appalling and beyond comprehension. Therefore, it is not a lack of compassion that has led to my low rating. However, from a literary perspective, I found this book lacking. The quality of writing could have been better and more expansive. Furthermore, in this particular publication, there were numerous mistakes ranging from missing letters in words to random letters placed at the end of sentences and paragraphs. It is important to read these stories but I felt Night's potential to be a truly impactful story was not fully realised.

Night - from Transylvania to Buchenwald via Auschwitz
This short account of the author's experiences in Sighet (then in Hungary), Auschwitz and Buchenwald is a very powerful book. The style is succinct and terse; the book is very readable and the narrative is brisk. Many of the experiences described are horrific. We read about extreme inhumanity combined with grotesqueries. For example, when the prisoners are forced to watch hangings at Auschwitz the order rings out, `Caps off!' and then, `Cover your heads!' It is a ritualistic gesture to a more civilized world. The forced evacuation from Auschwitz to Buchenwald (in January 1945) is even more horrific than Auschwitz itself. The inability or refusal of the Sighet Jews to believe the stories they heard is intriguing, but one should bear in mind that for a long time the British and American governments were reluctant to trust the reports reaching them from Poland about the Holocaust. The book describes the author's loss of faith. Where was God at Auschwitz? This question arises again and again in different forms.I'd recommend the book highly to anyone interested in the Holocaust. It would also be very useful reading when teaching the Holocaust in schools - at least to pupils aged 15+.

Great service, book in very good condition
Great service, book in very good condition. This book reduced me to tears as Elie made you feel as you were there with him through the worst experience of his life. Many times I had to put this book down, and seriously wonder to myself how any human being could treat people like this, even though I am aware of what still goes on in the World. The message..Do not stand idly by and watch..is as important today as it s ever been. Life is precious!
