desertcart.com: Half Girlfriend: 8601421386920: Bhagat, Chetan: Books Review: Beautiful! I enjoyed every minute reading this book. The story was captivating and engaging.Thank you for sharing about rural Bihari. - Will surely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a great book to read. It’s very interesting as well as true in many layers. A gift for the senses. Review: Delightful and entertaining - Yes, it really is a romance, and yes, you kind of know where it is going sometimes, but I found it well written with a lot of fun little side plots and insights and descriptions of Indian culture as we'll as US. Only thing to add might be a glossary of terms. I recognized some items because my folks lived in Pakistan and I have a Pakistani friend so many terms I recognised but others I didn't.

Touching and gripping
Yes, one of the most touching and rewarding books I have read in a long time, and I read a lot. It has excitement, great settings, and a personal relationship that could make one weep. I will look for more by this author.

Although Chetan Bhagat lacks great language, he succeeds in putting forth his thoughts ...
Looks as if the novel has been written with the story being adapted as a film. So some very typical hollywood / bollywood rom com elements involved. The Plot is simple. Although Chetan Bhagat lacks great language, he succeeds in putting forth his thoughts to the reader. So the novel works on some level. A good one time read. This is for the first time that i read romantic fiction.

My brother recommended this book
My brother recommended this book. I bought it but it took me a while before i started reading it. The title of the book actually made me more curious. It took a while before the title :half girlfriend, was defined. I didnt like it but i needed to know how the story ended. I find the story unbelievable. But i enjoyed reading about india, its culture, food and the words. Unfortuantely, i ran into a wall when i tried using the dictionary on my kindle to understand some of the indian words. i gave it 4 stars because the author was not boring in narrating the story. The author used different places to make it interesting for me to just keep reading the book. I liked it and hope to see an improvement on the author's next storyline.

Inspirational
Very touching novel. Very real issues experienced by migrants...spoke to issues experienced by women ,rural towns and their struggles, highlighted the economic n political issues experienced in many rural areas. Most importantly it speaks to one person's determination to improve these issues and to fight for the love of his live. Lots of live lessons were learnt, never run away from your problems somehow one day you will have to face them.People dislike and discourage what they don't understand once you believe in your heart don't let people dissuade you.....Finally there are still some good people with big hearts out there...Not sure if this was a true story but great technique Chetan

A restoration of faith
I absolutely love this novel. I actually read this in a 1 and a half days. I really loved how it displayed the loyalty of the main character to his homeland and making the lives of the children better and that of his heart. It really teaches you the value of being a friend first and not rushing. This came to me at a time when I am dealing with a personal issue and it is helped me a great deal.

Boy meets girl, and so forth
What do you say about a twenty-five-year-old girl who dies? If you’re Madhav Jha, a boy from Bihar with a title and nothing more, you seek help from the noted author Chetan Bhagat, with whom you leave a packet of journals left behind by the beautiful Riya Somani from Delhi, whom you have loved but have never quite possessed. (Hence “half girlfriend,” right?) As it turns out, things are looking up for Madhav even without her; Bill Gates has come to visit, and the Gates Foundation arranges a grant for the Bihari town’s crumbling school. But he continues to mourn, until Bhagat clues him in: Riya is alive. Somewhere. And so Madhav resolves to find her, one way or another. It’s a cheery story, if perhaps too obviously intended as a Bollywood feature film; the side bits, the intersections of Indian and British (and later American) customs, are at least as interesting as the story itself.

Once upon a time, there was a guy who wanted to be an author. He wrote a couple of decent works and then got caught in a loop. This reviewer is setting it down here, so that he can try breaking out of it and stop crowding out other better-written books. The Conception: 1. He has convinced himself that he is supposed to be the common man's author 2. So has a responsibility to pick up mundane topics and themes 3. And they have to be cliched and not too intricate - because the common man's life is just not complicated enough for a Dostoevskian treatment (god forbid!), or for a "literary treatment" 4. So it has to be non-literary and cliched. Got it? 5. It also has to employ poor language because not only is he the common man's voice, but his readers are also the common men, who wants the processed goods, the easy stuff. 6. Conclusion: He has the recipe for an untapped new brand of literature - exploring the lives of the common men of India. Genius Idea. Surely. 7. Sounds quite grand, if you ask him! The Execution: 1. Having worked out his grand role thus, this self-appointed common man's author sits down to write. 2. He doesn't realize this, but the role he has assigned makes it very easy for him to crank out book after book with almost minimal effort. 3. He might be able to finish an entire plot in one sitting. After all exposing cliches as reality (without getting into the complexities that make them a part of life) is his role. 4. He is surprised at the ease with which he is able to do this. His characters just seem to spring out of nowhere and fade into nothingness between the covers, doing exactly what he bids them in between. Complete mastery. Which author can boast of that? 5. Conclusion: Must be a genius. ( Bonus: He discovers that he is now also an expert in every national issue and can pontificate effortlessly. He does not realize that anyone can have an opinion, and by being allowed to mouth off on them, he is not being treated like an expert, but as a celebrity. Being a celebrity in this country is license to be an expert on anything, and he gets disproportionate voice in the media, though usually a shrill and mildly pompous one. He becomes hated by the intellectual community of the country for this. Geniuses are always hated, right? Hence conclusion is reinforced

I loved the movie adaptation and the book was even better! I did question if Riya loved Madhav, but I think she loved him in her own way, that didn’t need to be shown yet, she kept herself safe from that. Honestly the book is so cute and somewhat funny but also sad. I loved it so much, probably will read it again ❤️

All his books are enjoyable, and a fun read to get some insight into modern day young Indians and the issues that affect them. This book has a nice story twist with its connection to Bill Gates and the Foundation.

What an amazing book, the idea of never giving up comes through in the book. Amazing plot twists, realism and etc. The ending however could have been a little better!
