Great Children's Book
I have five grandchildren and all of them have loved this book. It is very intertwining and the illustrations are great. I would highly recommend it for children from 3 to 7.

"Why don't you give it that avocado pear..."
And the rest was history :) I love this book. It was one of my favorite and most memorable from childhood and got me loving avocados (so healthy) from an early age. I recently purchased for my expecting sister.Buuuuut, it has some edgy themes I was surprised by in a recent reading: namely bullying & robbery. I don't think many would give it a second thought in the 80's (we had cigarette vending machines goddammit), but today...it will raise an eyebrow for some. Not trying to perpetuate overly PC, trigger-warning, Safe Zone thinking...I'm a semi-pro athlete that loves 'locker-room talk'. Just saying.I still love this book and while it has its imperfections, it sits comfortably in my top ten kiddo books.P.S. Three other books I loved as a young kid What Was I Scared Of?: A Glow-in-the Dark Encounter (Classic Seuss) In the Night Kitchen (Caldecott Collection) The Rainbow Goblins

Hilarious and educational children's book about healthy food!
Avocado Baby by John Burningham is a hilarious book about a family expecting a baby. The family, the Hargraves, are afraid their new baby will be weak, like the rest of the family. When the baby is born, he is fussy and won't eat. The mother is at her wit's end. Then, one of the other kids suggests feeding the baby an avocado. The mother gives it a try and the baby is suddenly super-strong - fending off burglars and bullies - even throwing a bully in a lake! My 5-year old and I both laughed out loud at this one. He wanted to read it over and over again, laughing every time. It's one of his favorites. My son already loves avocados, but I can imagine this book would convince any picky kid to give avocados a try. I hope John Burningham will write more books about the power of healthy fruits and vegetables!Emily Webber [...]

An oldie but a goodie.
Has been around for a long time and is still an enjoyable read for both parents and children. Avocados are back on the menu and will make you invincible!

Two generations...
This was my little sister's favorite book when she was a child. She found it in the school library when she was about 6, and she must have checked the book out a hundred times! Back then, of course, we didn't have the internet, so my mother couldn't find it for her. When she had her baby last year, I bought this book for the new baby, as sort of a reminiscence of my sister's childhood, and to sort of signify something that they could share from one generation to the next. My sister was so thrilled when she unwrapped the book! It's hilarious, adorable, and very, very sweet!!!

An Avocado a Day...
This is a cute tale of a puny baby who doesn't like to eat...UNTIL...it's discovered that it (the baby is always referred to as "it" or "the baby," so I guess the gender is left up to the reader. Clever, huh?) LOVES avocados.Just one avocado a day seems to imbue the tot with Popeye-like strength and it is soon pushing cars and hefting baby grand pianos. The illustrations are simple but evocative My favorite was when the baby leaps from its stroller to save its older siblings from some bullies. You go, baby! There is no "message" to the book. It exists solely to entertain. It can't even be taken as a parable for picky eaters as the babe never tries any other foods.I'm thinking publication costs must have been paid for by The Avocado Grower's Association.

Avocado Baby, A Fun Children’s Book
I read this children’s book to my son over 30 years ago and he loved it. He wanted it for his own son. It’s a fun and funny book.

Boring & Binary
Bought this book years ago for my (now ten year-old) son after they read it to him at school. He liked it but I never did. Recently re-reading it to our three year-old. The story feels very dated. I hate the way it defines the characters in terms of ‘weak’ and ‘strong.’ The artwork is good, but the storyline is poor. It doesn’t really go anywhere and the ending is something of an anti-climax. One of my least favourite children’s books, and I’ve read a lot over the years!

Lame
Was in the school reading list of my 7yrs old. Both him and me couldn't believe how bad it was (in the kid's words, "that's it???")."story" is lame, art is ugly. Maybe OK for a 3-4 yrs old, after that forget it. -

Avocados are so good for you!
This mini version of the story is great for having in a change bag to pull out in a dull moment when you are out. The weak little baby who isn't interested in food becomes a super strong bionic baby when he tries the wonderful avocado pear. His super strong feats are hilarious and amazing. I also had 6-Dinner Sid, Rosie's Babies and several other mini treasure books in my bag when mine were little.

My daughter loves this book.
I originally borrowed this book from the library, my three year old daughter loved it so much she kept wanting me to read it. Unfortunately after renewing the book twice I finally returned it. My daughter was so upset, she cried. As a suprise I bought it for her for Christmas and she was so happy, she wanted me to read it to her straight away. It is comical and can see why she likes it.
