Does this work on a textured dashboard like the picture shows it? Dubious about how a suction mount will work.

No, it won't adhere to a textured surface without an attachment plate (which on this model is an extra) Also, the suction cup on this model is sticky and doesn't rely on suction 100%. The long necked version which is completely suction based is a better option as it also comes with a dashboard plate. Hope that helps.
