Great Buy
So I was in the market for a new tripod mount because on my other mount I lost the little top piece that twists into the bottom of the camera. I was scrolling through Amazon and doing research on what I wanted and I stumbled across this one. To be honest I was a little hesitant at first because it was a relatively low price point, benchmarking from comparable tripod mounts. I had some reservations when it came to build quality and mechanical capabilities. I decided to go for it anyway because I needed a tripod mount for a tip I was going on and figured, worst case Id be out a relatively small amount of money. It showed up in two days, faster than the expected due date. When I lifted up the box, I was surprised by the weight. I opened it up and boy was I wrong. The build quality is what you would expect from a high end piece of equipment. The whole item has a nice, weight to it and gives you a nice state-of-mind while shooting because you know it is not going anywhere. It is a very stable piece of equipment. All the knobs are robust and allow for movement even with gloves on. Some of the knobs on this piece are also lined with rubber and ridges to allow for further efficiency in motion. When you unlock the swivel and rotate the tripod mount on the base it is very flush and allows for even continuous motion. The two air bubble levels on the top are also handy and accurate. There is also a little hinge that picks up off the camera screw on the bottom of the top plate to allow easier tightening and loosening of the screw without tools. Overall the attention to detail, build quality, mechanical fluidity, and overall aesthetic lends it to be a good addition to my gear. Highly recommend this mount. I am leaving on Saturday for this trip, so I will see how it performs under stress, but I have no doubts it will treat me well.

Awesome Ball Mounts, Great Price !
Solid. Strong. No problems. Mounted Sony HDR-FX1 high definition broadcast cameras on these. One is mounted on an Interfit INT-309 boom arm, and the other two are on "L" shelf brackets, drilled out to accommodate larger diameter holes needed, then to the wall. I love the details on these. Also the two tone color looks cool to me. The numbered and notched guides are great for recording your set up for when you change a setup, then return. I can loosen and adjust the camera position easily on one axis without totally messing up all of them, and incrementally too. The bubble level looks cool, and is actually functional, although I haven't needed it yet. The quick release doesn't have a safety, but just pay attention, be careful. You will need to buy a small mounting bolt and some washers if it is mounted like I did, so just be sure not to go too deep, just look inside, only go as deep as the visible first set of threads, not deeper. Sorry I don't remember the bolt dimensions. Use one or more washers to take up any slack to keep from going too deep into inside past the heads threads.

It is a steal with a minor inconvenience
I have a small travel tripod that I have been using on several recent overseas trips. The ball head was OK but is getting worse; so I was looking for a replacement because the legs are still perfectly fine. I was going to buy a small ballhead from brands such Induro or Sirui. After checking the prices, I took a step back. I started looking for cheaper options and there were several. This Pergear is near the bottom in terms of price but not the cheapest but has decent reviews. Given the low price, I placed an order. It was delivered yesterday and I immediately replaced the old ball head. The ball is larger than the old one and so the whole head is larger; however, interestingly, it does not change much the tripod folded dimensions. In terms of performance, I am more than satisfied especially at this low asking price. Because of the larger ball diameter, it is more secure than the old ball head ever was. Panning is just as smooth as my much more expensive Induro ball head on my larger CF tripod (CT214); I was expecting worse based on previous reviews. The ball rotation, however, is not as smooth but not so bad to be a deal breaker. The clamp can accept Arca Swiss plates but the clamp opening is just a little smaller than standard. So, you can still easily slide the plate in; whether that is a deal breaker is subjective. I have a few AS clamps around, so I simply replace it with an AS compatible one.I highly recommend this ball head if you have a tight budget. I am not brand loyal. My acceptance criteria are strictly performance based.

Surprising build for the price point.
The Pergear ball head arrived on time and in good condition. Some reviewers write that it comes in an unbranded box, but this one was nicely branded but very simple. The ball head was in sealed plastic and there was no instruction/info booklet or leaflet. It has a surprising weight to it and seems very durable and sturdy. It has a large knob that locks the ball in place once positioned. There is a smaller knob that does the exact same thing. I have seen other brandings of this ball head with those same two knobs labelled as "fine adjustment" for the smaller and "coarse adjustment for the larger. I assume that the smaller one will tighten more slowly and precisely for cases where you want to leave a little slack for adjustment without slippage. The coarse adjustment knob must be for when you just want to lock it down quickly and surely. there is yet another knob to lock down the rotating base, which, when loosened, will rotate 360 degrees. The camera plate is well constructed with a 1/4"-20 screw mount and is locked in place by a fourth knob which has a bubble level in it for leveling at a 90 degree tilt. The base unit also has a convenient bubble level. The camera plate assembly seems to be Arca-Swiss type, but I haven't confirmed this and there is no literature on the topic.Be aware that the mounting hole in the base is 3/8" and not the expected 1/4"-20, so I had to order a set of reducer bushings to mount it to 1/4"-20 male studs. I've seen where other brandings come with them but not this one.Overall, the Pergear ball head is a well-built unit and performs as expected and I expect it to last and serve me well.
