How can I use this to automatically scan when I hold a barcode under it without having to press the button?

It will go to the next line if not there is a barcode sheet with it that will give you different options on how it reacts.

Does it connect to apple mac computer?

Yes, for all intents and purposes the scanner just presents itself as a keyboard to the computer, and then 'types' whatever it reads from the barcode.
