Start with good wood
I love the smooth carving of Basswood for starters. The way that the wood is cut allows for several projects. My order was PERFECT for getting started practising whittling figurines. My first is a floppy hatted hillbilly. It's not like the pictures but that's what practice is all about. Next order will be 2"x2" as My hands are really large and I need that extra bit. It sure is nice to have a kit when you need to burn time waiting. I put my knife, strop and wood in a shaving bag. Perfect for anything.

Good for first time whittler
Bought this and a whittling set for my 13 year old for Christmas. He's just beginning whittling, and this wood is perfect. Nice size and easy to whittle. He's made a knife and a little trophy.

A bit expensive but good quality
My child wanted to take up whittling so we purchased some tools and this set of wood blocks. The blocks are nice, soft, and easy to carve. My only issue is they are pricey for what they are but it did save a trip to Home Depot which would have ended up costing us much more in random purchases just by walking through the store :-D

Great Value!
This basswood package contains some of the nicest basswood I've ever seen, and it's processed beatifully and carves just as well. Granted, I'm a "newbie" at carving, but I've been building wood aircraft models for more than fifty years; my first was a Douglas D-558 kit by Strombecker, so I'm not a "newbie" with wood. You're going to have to look really hard for a better basswood value than this!

Perfect blocks and smooth to the touch
The product came very quickly and it is just as it was advertised. I will order from them again. Thank you for the nice product The blocks of bass wood are nice and squared and smooth. Te package came undamaged so the blocks look really good. I am just starting to carve so I am very happy with this product

Inconsistency in hardness
Some piece are nice and sof. But some others have dense knots. I was carving a head out of 1x1x1 cube. It’s so hard that I have to strop my OCC knife every 5 mins and I can already see some dents on the edge with light reflection. Never have I ever had experience like this on basswood. Not consistent
