Hi, the flat tool looks far too thick to use on most tripod screws, is it? Thanks

My tripod has torx screws so flat screwdriver tool not required however it does look too wide and thick for most equipment screws. If I needed a flat screwdriver tool I’d just file it thinner in both dimensions but that is no answer to its original size.

I have one of these and I love it - but can i take it on a plane?

I’ve not had a problem flying with it in my hand luggage from the UK

Is this one good enough for standard use? Smallrig & other accessories or would it be worth getting the 9 in 1 version, not sure which would be best

This is a robust and well-made tool, with all the most useful drivers, etc. built in. I am not familiar with the 9 in 1 version, so do not know what the two additional tools are. I use it daily on my camera gear, and it works very well. The hex wrenches and flat blade (for tightening 1/4" 20 plate accessories to the camera) are well-made and do not show any wear, unlike cheaper versions where the blade bends or hex wrenches get "rounded". I highly recommend this. See what additional tools are on the 9-in-1 - if you do not need the additional tools, then go with this - no point carrying more weight or bulk.

Are the tools easy to prise out, or do you need long nails?

You don't need long nails to open this tool.Simply push down on the required spine and it will push through to the opposite side making it very easy to use.The spines can go either way.
