Q: Does this producy have a standard plug in or does it need to be hard wired?

This inline fan comes pre-wired with a standard grounded plug.

Q: If I were to use this for steam extraction, do the internal components protection from corrosion? Note: the fan body would not be in the steam area.

In the current version this fan will not work for steam movement, you will exceed max humidity limit of 90%, and steam will harm the electronic components. The fan will fail prematurely and the warranty will be voided. We are working on waterproof version with external PCB which would work in environment with humidity over 90%, stay tuned for the release in the next 6 months.

Q: both ends are of the same "sex" and also of the same sex as to what I want to connect. What would be the appropriate connector?

if I recall correctly, an 8" duct will fit right over the fan. Just make sure the duct is uncrimped. Flexible duct can do the same thing.
