SHREYAS BRAND NEW NICKEL PLATED Bb FLAT 4 VALVE FLUGEL HORN +FREE HARD CASE+MOUTHIPICE

Although I have played trumpet for nearly my entire life, I have had no experience with the flugel horn. I purchased this one because of the low price. The instrument arrived sooner than expected and I am stilling getting used to it. The things I like about the instrument are that it has a substantial heft and feel to it and a good sound. I play in a small brass ensemble (quintet or quartet) and the flugel horn provides a different color to the 2nd trumpet part. By transposing I can also substitute for a Horn in F. The 4th valve, which is the equivalent of 1st and 2nd, provides alternate fingerings and extends lower range by a third. The case is light weight but appears to be constructed of ballistic nylon over a wooden frame. One advantage is that handle can be lengthened to a carry strap which is very convenient if one is carrying multiple instruments and a gear bag.I believe this is a good value and would be excellent for a beginner or student.

Let the buyer beware!I also was attracted by the 4th valve. Not many Flugel horns have one. The horn arrived in 4 days which was a pleasant surprise. It had been predicted to take more like 3 weeks. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. Oh the horn looks good, a shame it doesn’t play like it looks. Very difficult to get a good Flugel horn tone out of it. Valves are a complete mess: they were coarsely machined and left that way, sticking badly, after 3 cleanings there is still black residue Coming out of the Valves and they still stick though not as bad. Blue Juice valve oil helps. There’s not a main tuning slide. This means in order to tune to a group you have to tune each valve individually, not a fun process. And what is this 4th valve. I don’t know. It’s not an F valve, way to sharp. And the tone here is often muffled. The 4th valve is unusable, never mind it was why I bought this horn in the first place. This horn needs to go back to the seller; unfortunately, even though he sent me a defective product he still expects me to pay return postage to India. Shipping as a private Individual may be too costly to be worth it. Perhaps I also will have to consider the lamp potential of this horn.

I took a chance that this horn might be playable. I always wanted a 4 valve flugel. However, the 4th valve is way too sharp. It is more like a flat Eb than a D. Not even close to a D. Plus there is no compression when pushing any of the valve slides in. Valves stick, too. The case stinks like cheap Chinese rubber. But, for this price, it will make a very pretty lamp. So, for lamp potential, I give it two stars.

For a brass instrument at this price it plays and sounds far beyond expectations.

Horn came with dents, scratches and incomplete solder joints. The valves have incredibly poor action, the return springs are just placed at the bottom valve. I've seen better springs on a Bic pen!The cost of the return exceeds the cost of the item! Thanks Amazon for all of your help - nonexistent!

The Flugelhorn arrived promptly, in less than a week, and arrived in fine condition. When I buy any instrument, new or used, I do a complete tear down, clean up any grime, and re assemble with fresh grease on the slides, and oil the valves. I didn't find anything amiss. The valve action is quick enough, and the tone is pleasant. Very nice, I enjoy playing it.

This product is poorly made, and in order for me to return it, they want me to spend more for the return shipping than what the product is worth.Amazon please give me a call, because I'm about to delete my account.
