effective, inexpensive rattched wire tensioner
the tensioner has no built in means to drive the ratchet. i made a tool to engage the latching teeth. there are tools available. i didn't take note of where the tool was sold as it was more costly than the one ratchet i purchased and it was simple to make. Steel, saw, welder, time tinkering about 30 min. done. built the 60' arbor, only 3 grape vines.tensioner worked well with heavy arbor wire.

Good quality for the price
This work well, but you will need the special wrench to work easily. You can tighten with a pair of channel lock pliers on the large ID, but it's tedious.Pros: works as well as more expensive onesCons: does not have a square drive for use with a standard wrench; thru hole would not accept double strand wire, required drilling out with a 1/4" drill (trivial task)

Not bad
These worked pretty well for my fence support wire. The only problem is the tension "spring" (it's not really a spring but a wire that keeps pressure on the racheting mechanism). It bends very easily and renders the crank useless, because there ends up being no tension to keep the rachet locked in place. It's also very difficult to fix it once it happens. Be careful with the wire tensioner and it works fine.

I love these things
Tight enough to play a tune. I love these things. I needed to suspend chicken netting above a coop. The "wire strainer" made it simple. I anchored one end of a wire to a solid post and the other end to the strainer, which operates like a miniature cable winch. Click, click, click, the spring loaded catch keeps the axle turning one direction and the wire stays tight. I've used this method before and if the wire stretches a bit over time it's a simple task, using the removable handle, to crank it up another notch or two. I can't think of any improvement, so I rate it five-stars.

easy to use
this line tightener is very easy to use. The plastic ones I had before broke easily. These will be around forever!!

easy to install
easy to install, made my fence tight. downside is it requires a special wrench to tighten which is a separate purchase and I have to keep track of it to tighten in the future

Great strainers, I wish the description mentioned needing a special tool
Would have been 5 stars if the description let me know that I needed a special tool to tighten them.
