Skylanders SWAP Force Starter Pack - PlayStation 4

I bought this game as a gift for myself and my boyfriend, as we've started playing fun video games together. I'm not one for the gore stuff and prefer kid-like games. Skylanders is definitely that, but with so many options in characters and hidden secrets that it's a challenge for adults as well! The multitude of Skylanders will have me buying and playing with them for months to come (yeah, say goodbye to spending money because the Swapforce Skylanders are $$$). You can use older Skylanders and new ones, so if you have an older version of the game, you can still play it BUT you definitely need the SwapForce ones to get very far in the game. There are different levels of play (easy, medium, hard, extreme or whatever). The levels each take about 45-60 minutes and unfortunately, there's no mid-level autosave, so you have to have the time to sit down and finish one. But if you have less time, there are shorter missions and battles to enjoy. The story line is clearly geared for 8 year olds so I usually skip listening to the characters make silly jokes, but it's 100% appropriate for kids and still plenty of fun for adults! My complaints are the lack of auto-save mid-level (I've spent hours redoing levels if I had to leave) and the fairly high prices of SwapForce Skylanders ($15 each or so) which is tough when you need at least 8-10 of them to really complete the game. That's no small issue so keep that in mind if giving it as a gift. Highly recommend!

Originally I had purchased Knack for my 8 year old daughter so she would have a game to play while I wasn't playing Killzone or NB2K. After knack got crushed in the reviews I canceled the preorder and opted for Skylanders. As it turns out, i'm the one playing this game the most! This is my first foray into the world of Skylanders and I must say - i'm sold. First off, the graphics....WOW. So very beautiful. The gameplay is also very fun and addictive, it's like a simpler version of Diablo. My daughter loved it right away, i'm sure kids at school had told her about it because she was incredibly excited to play it. I suppose the only bad thing is having to buy the toys to unlock certain areas. I get it, it's an awesome money making business model, i'm just not used to spending hundreds of dollars on a videogame to get the full experience. There is TONS of replay value here and TONS of quests, unlockables, collectables etc...It's going to keep you and your kids busy for a long long time. Adults - to get the most out of the game, I recommend playing on hard. I recommend this game to everyone who has a ps4 young or old, its just a solid game.

I have to go 3 stars on this, just because of the fact to really complete a level and collect everything you need additional skylanders. When I first bought this, I thought I would really get into it, like I did with the first one they came out with, when I actually collected most of the figurines. This time it was different, yes, the game was good, graphics were great, etc.. I just don't like the fact that there's like what, 30 additional skylanders out there that you have to purchase, not to mention rare hard to find ones. I wish they would tone it down a little bit, and not offer so many.

Reasons why: Positives: - Graphics are outstanding and the game is a joy to play even for adults. Great game to play WITH your kids or spouse. - Game is beatable by non gamers unlike the first game. Difficulty levels are most welcome for kids etc. - Characters can level up quicker and money isn't much of a problem. - XP and Gold is shared amongst players. No more bickering about who picks up the gold. - Quick travel spots save time from constant walking and levels are well designed. - All older figures can be used to play and unlock gates. - Game can be beat with only a handful of figures without missing too much. - The camera angle is panned out rather than up close so you can easily see the playfields and for some people (not get sick). Negatives: - More figures are needed than before to unlock everything although being able to use your old figures helps a lot. Yes only one negative I can think of which hardly is a cause to knock off a star. Granted the game is a cash grabbing machine but with making a budget for this game and sticking to it, it's well worth it.

Pay close attention to the tagline that states "16 characters... 256 potential combinations," the vast majority of the Swap Force figures do not have parts that can be swapped - only 16 can at this time. It's still fun and uses the old figures as well, so that's cool for those with large collections all ready. For those searching Amazon, the characters listed as "SWAP-able" are the ones that actually swap parts. That said, it's a great game with lots of replay value and immense fun to play with multiple players. You can't really go wrong with a Skylanders game and kids, the characters are diverse and memorable and the play is easy to get in to.

Swap force is major improvement over the older Skylanders games. The sound and graphics are built for current gen systems (ps4 Xbox one) and faithfully down scaled to PS3/360 systems. The wii version is missing much of the charm. The arenas and bonus missions improve replayability. We haven't done much swapping of the character parts, but the new characters are fun as they are. Tip: shop around. buy the game starter pack used with game portal and toys for $20-30. You can also buy used figures for $2-10 at GameStop. You'll need about $35 in used swap force figures to unlock all areas. This puts the full unlocked game price close to the original launch price of $75. Also if you have trap team, the trap team portal works with older games.

Was cheaper by $6 at toys r us. Price adjustment not given. Otherwise decent game
