Love it!
I've tried quite a few of Volcanica's coffees, including some of their more exotic varietals, such as the Kona Peaberry.Side Quest: Let me tell you something about the Kona. If you're sitting there dropping nickels into a bucket to save up for a pound of the stuff, don't do it. The Kona is wonderful. It's everything you ever wanted a cup of coffee to be. BUT that's all it is. It's a perfectly-balanced lovely smooth coffee. ProTip: That's great and all, but you can get that in other forms for a fraction of the price. The Kona is not worth its sticker price. A coffee that expensive should really jump out and "wow!" you with richness and complexity. The Kona, while lovely, doiesn't do that. It tastes just like the coffee you're drinking now just with whatever bit you don't like about it removed. The best way to describe the Kona is "unobjectionable". It's not terribly memorable, but there's not a thing wrong with it either. So now you've got the scoop on that, get yuo a scoop of this instead.I'm not kidding, put the Kona out of your mind, grab a pound of this, and consider your life complete, It's a great coffee with a very bold richness and layered flavor that you imagine that you'll get with the Kona, but won't. Sometimes a wonderful coffee can be had without breaking the bank. Remember, the most expensive coffee is just the rarest or most in demand, that doesn't mean it's the best. Stay caffeinated, folks! (Hey, we're middle aged. We're too old to do street drugs and too young to be hooked on prescriptions, so this is all we've got!)

If you know good coffee then this is for you
This coffee is the real deal folks, ignore the poor reviews as those people don't know what to expect from a good coffee bean and roasting company. This coffee, the Costa Rican Reserve Tarrazu, is worth every penny and more. It is smooth and rich in real coffee flavor, delicious to the last drop. It comes labeled properly, which includes roast date and expiration date. The company sources the beans from the higher, volcanic mountains in Costa Rica. ALL high altitude mountain coffee beans are going to cost more than Folgers, they are harder to care for and harvest! The price for this brand is better than any other brand I've seen and bought, for the quality. You DON'T want to drink fresh roast coffee, the beans are not ready yet, as most coffee shops lead you to believe. My bag has a roast date of April, which happens to match when I got it...in April. I put it in the freezer for long-term storage and opened it 2weeks ago (late August) and the coffee has been perfect! So if you really know coffee and want a great tasting, perfectly roasted bean and willing to pay more than Folgers price then this coffee is for you!

Dark but sweet
This is a sweeter version than Starbucks’ Sumatra beans, but still full bodied and definitely a dark roast. I prefer to mix it half half with San Francisco Bay’s Rain Forest Dark Roast so it’s a little less sweet. That said, I can’t justify the money when I prefer to mix it. But I would still like to try some other flavors. It is good high quality coffee, fresh, and low acid. I would recommend giving it a go if you’re looking for a new brand of coffee.

Smooth and flavorful
It has a smooth body with bright citrus notes, a hint of sweetness, and a clean, crisp finish. The aroma is rich and inviting, making it perfect for pour-over, drip, or French press brewing. If you enjoy high-quality, single-origin coffee with a bright yet smooth profile, this one is a must-try!

I like it
I suppose it is a matter of taste and I do not pretend to be a coffee expert, but I really like this coffee. Sumatra is supposed to have less acid in it. Not sure if I could tell the difference by tasting it, but I love the taste and the aroma. I grind enough to fill a small jelly jar so I don't grind too much in advance. I use my personal K Cup in my Keurig. Very full bodied flavor.

Excellent coffee and accurate description of freshness
Pleasantly surprised by the excellent flavor and freshness of this coffee (Costa Rica, Tarrazu Reserve). The coffee was delivered within a week of the indicated roasting date, which is not bad considering it is being delivered through a large, complicated supply chain. The roasting was done well, beans were fresh, and packaging was solid. I have only enjoyed it through an espresso style preparation, and will likely not try it through a drip method. Taste is always personal, so I will simply say that if you enjoy dark, rich coffees, this coffee is worth trying. No bitterness (for my taste) or any hit of over-roasting. I think the seller's description of the flavor is accurate. Enjoy!

If you like Costa Rican Terrazzu, DO NOT buy this!
I am very fond of the rich flavor of Terrazu and have liked Volcanica's regular quite well. I needed some decaf to have on hand for an evening cup or company, I decided to take a chance on this one. I was concerned, as it is dark roast, but it was whole bean and their medium roast decaf Terrazu is ground, unfortunately. I prefer to grind my own and since I don't use decaf often, whole bean keeps longer. Buying the whole bean dark roast was a huge mistake!! It tastes like a cheap grocery store dark roast. It has absolutely no Terrazu flavor and isn't even a good dark roast flavor. Tastes bad on the tongue and leaves a bitter aftertaste. I've made it in my Cuisinart drip and tried French press...no good. Waste of money.
