Handy useful cable.
I recently purchased a Samsung 850 EVO SSD (500GB) to replace my original HDD in my laptop. Samsung provided the cloning software but of course I needed to be able to connect the SSD to my laptop. I purchased this cable and it worked perfectly with no problems. My laptop along with the cloning software detected the SSD connected to the USB port using this cable. A nice quick solution for a temporary connection. (I did have an external hard drive housing that I could have used but it was a USB 2.0 housing and this saved me the hassle of having to insert the SSD into the housing. Cable should be useful also in the future is I have to help friends in troubleshooting corrupted drives and attempting to recover their data. Note: I notice some of these type of cables come with two USB connectors. My external HDD which I used for backing up my data comes with such a cable. The reason being some older laptops could not provide enough amperage through a single usb port. I have no problem using a single usb port on my lenovo Thinkpad T440s using this cable. Also when I do use my external HDD I also only use a single cable.

Startech seems to have produced a quality item that works. Nothing fancy with lights or anything like that other than the cable is good quality and I am able to choose what hard drive I can to backup. I've ordered a bigger bulkier unit last summer which also works fine but I felt that at times one doesn't need a electrical plug in addition to make it work. Some have said that 3.5 mm hard drives can only work with electric power and that the smaller 2.5mm drives can work strictly off of usb generated power. Now I have both so my bases are covered. I also got a Anker cable because of the fancy light and lower price . that cable is also good.

Five Stars
Outstanding product for SSD formatting, file transfers and System Image Backups. Plus. The main reason why someone would buy this adapter is too plug it into a USB2 or USB3 port and clone their HDD OS to it. Then remove the HDD and install their SSD.HDD is so terribly slow compared to an SSD. This cable allowed me to clone the 100GB of data on my HDD to the SSD in about 20 minutes. Once you install the SSD use your old HDD (Laptop HDD) for System Image Backups. Use the same cable because it works just fine with the HDD you removed from your laptop.

It does what it's supposed to and does it well - with no surprises
Like most things StarTech, this is generally overpriced but when you need it, it's worth every penny. The documentation (if you can call it that), again - like most thing StarTech - is pretty much incomprehensible and useless. But, it's a cable... Do you really need documentation? It does what it's supposed to do and does it well. Overpriced or not, it's a simple solution to a problem that usually comes when you're in a pinch. And for that, I say 5 stars.

Affordable for minimal users and works great!
This works great! Doesn't compromise quality. I don't use it frequently but have used it in a pinch to display lyrics on a high res projector for church worship and for event at work. Both times gave me no problems

Seems to work fine.
Bought for my girlfriend. She uses it to show her chrome book screen on a monitor. She hasn't complained so I imagine it's working great.

Does the job
I use this adapter for my 2017 MacBook Pro, connecting to an old HP monitor that only has a VGA input. I've had the dongle for nearly three months now and haven't had a single issue - no flickers or connectivity issues, it just works for me as advertised.

So far the video adapter has worked. I use it as a spare to assure that I have one available to connect my 2016 Mac to an LCD projector for my class lectures.
