Small, cheap, rugged and effective.
You have to understand what this does and how it works to get the most benefit out of it.(1) Although it connects the POWER lines between the two connectors, it does not connect the DATA lines. Thus if you place this between a charging source and the device you wish to charge, there is no way for the charging source to use the data lines to install malware, etc. on your device. Given that such malware now exists, this seems like something everyone should do when charging devices from any power source, public or private, that they do not completely control: including computers at work or at friends' homes.(2) It has an integrated circuit inside that asks the power source to deliver as much current as it can. Without a chip such as this many chargers, including high powered ones, will only deliver a small amount of charging current. In these cases this product will help you get the most out of a charging source that is possible. But this device will NOT make a puny, weak charging source become a powerful one. And if your device already has the appropriate electronics inside then they will already be asking the charging source to deliver as much current as possible, so this product becomes redundant. Finally, this product consists of two connectors soldered to a PC board encapsulated in a red, rubbery material. I expect this product to be more rugged and more water resistant than similar products that have hard plastic housings.

Fixed a charging issue in my car
I bought this adapter to remedy a connectivity issue in my car. I have a 2012 Hyundai, which includes a feature that allows it to connect to iPhones over USB and play music from your media library....if your iPhone is from 2012. My modern iPhone does not play nice with the car's firmware, and this causes it to constantly attempt to reconnect to the car when plugged into USB. I just wanted to be able to charge my phone while driving, and this glitch prevented that.Enter the PortaPow - it strips away the data connections on the USB connection, and only allows power through. It's a very simple solution, and it works great in my case. Also interesting - this device can be used to protect your phone from sophisticated malware attacks originating from untrusted USB ports (for example, a charging station at an airport). As this adapter prevents serial connections and only allows power, this is a great tool for security-conscious travelers.

Great product
This is a really good product to have. It makes you feel at ease when charging your devices at a public charging station or in a rental car. In these times with so many people being hacked it’s a good thing to have for extra added protection.

Worked for my powerbank, but not for my suv
I tried to use this initially to block data in my suv so I could charge my phone quicker. It didn't work right and my phone would ding over and over saying it was charging then not, charging, then not. It didn't work out, but I think it was the suv's fault. That vehicle does all kinds of weird stuff when I try to hook up my phone via usb. So that was a fail. However, I used one of these data blockers on my powerbank portable phone charger, and it worked perfectly. The battery would only charge at the super slow speed without this adapter. I don't know exactly why. I'm guessing my phone believed it was connecting to a device that could transfer data. The moment I started using this data blocking adapter my phone would charge from that portable battery super fast. Worked out great. I would recommend these, but caution about your probability of success using them for an automobile connection.

Not a fast charge device, but does block data connection
Seems to work well as far as only passing power to the device and not allowing a data connection. Does absolutely nothing to speed up charging or provide a higher current charge on any of my tested devices. I tested it on an iphone 4, 4s, lg g3, kindle fire hdx, kindle touch and an asus laptop. I plugged it into a computer USB 2.0 port and USB 3.0 port. I tested it on a 2 amp mains charger. I tested it on a 3 amp, a 2 amp, a 1.5 amp and a 900 ma charger. In no scenario did it trick the device into providing a faster charge. In every scenario the charger that came with the device provided the fastest charge. In that regard, I'm disappointed. BTW, I tested the delivered amperage using a usb multimeter.

Works fine
If it doesn't work for you in a car, like my Toyota, for instance, it's probably the car's fault. My front USB charger port in my Toyota will not allow my iPhone to charge with this Data Blocker in place. I can use it with the back charger, which tells me Toyota has built in a data blocker defeat mechanism. I use it with the rear charger and a cable run up to the front - problem solved.
