Misadventures of a Curvy Girl (Misadventures Book 18)

Steamy and Polyamorous with Life Lessons!
Misadventures of a Curvy Girl by Sierra Simone was part of the Misadventures series. The series is a set of steamy books / novellas written by various best selling romance authors.A couple quick thoughts: it follows the MO of being quick, lighthearted and steamy. However, it also has life lessons about the insecurities and cruelties of being over weight. Mix in a war veteran with PTSD, two best friends since kindergarten who share everything and the storyline has substance. It’s also an insta-love, fairly short and three way sex on every other page, so it’s hard to have much depth and dimension, but all in all it was entertaining.

“Living your life is a radical act”
“Not because it makes you feel good but because it helps change the world. Do you see? Even just living your life is a radical act. That is body positivity. That is what matters, not an emotion that can change at the drop of a hat.”Naturally you would assume that this formulaic series written by many and varied authors would be simply great sexy-times entertainment but under the pen of Sierra Simone this particular story was not only irresistibly erotic, but examined the harm we do to ourselves and each other for callous and needless shaming over flaws or deviations from what general society…or more accurately… what advertisers tell us is beautiful.Ireland was a likeable and relatable character who is “curvy” which is a lovely way to refer to a larger “Rubenesque-size” woman. She has dumped her manipulative and self-centered boyfriend because he acted like being with her was a sacrifice of some sort and that she should be grateful that someone like her even had a boyfriend. Her sister kept telling her if only she wasn’t so lazy, hungry, out of control, undisciplined and on and on… It was, of course, her own fault. Aside from this cruel treatment was the negative inner dialogue constantly streaming through her head and her sensitivity to any insult real and perceived. Quite frankly, she had had enough. We find her on a work assignment when she eventually encounters the two men Ben and Caleb in a rural small town in the Midwest. Both of these men have loved, since boyhood, the women delightfully nude with all their fleshy curves on display in the paintings in their art history books. You know…the ones done by Peter Paul Rubens in the 1600’s. IOW they were attracted to Ireland not only with her gorgeous figure but also for her beauty and sassy city-girl spunk. Both of these men could be cover models on a magazine. Ben is a returning war veteran who has lingering issues with PTSD. Both of these men are in love with each other and have been for a long time but they also love to be a 3 and have been in the past. The story is told from the three points of view. We experience Ireland’s joy and her abject humiliation, her hurt, her acceptance and her forgiveness. Through the character of Ben, we are given a glimpse into the mindset who someone with PTSD may have and the challenges they face on a daily basis. We experience the strength and stable hand of the man who loves his two less whole partners. Now…we are talking about a lovely ménage here in the hands of Sierra Simone so you know the eroticism is real and “off the chain” good. I mean really good.Anyone who has issues with their outward appearance could relate to Ireland, even those of us with even simple insecurities. And it is perfectly natural to have insecurities…we just cannot let them get in the way of what we want or need to do. When we lack confidence, “a fake it until you make it” attitude goes a long way. This book also reminded me that in this day and age of social media. It is so easy to sit back and nit pick and be negative about anything and everything we see and read. Ask yourself this… Is what you’re saying going to make things better for anyone at the expense of injuring someone by your leveling of casual criticism and by what right, license or credential can you pass the judgement you’re making?Conversely, someone’s shallow comment online is not always made for the purpose it was intended. Don’t base your life’s decisions on what other people think. If you like sexy and erotic reads with substance then this is must read for you. It is truly worth your time.Favorite quotes:“There’s something about having a six-foot-plus, square-jawed, dark-eyed soldier yank you up to his bed that makes a girl eager.”“People aren’t just one thing. People aren’t just confident and then that’s it, there’s nothing that can dent that confidence. People aren’t just brave and then free from fear their entire lives. We exist in tangles of virtue and weakness simultaneously—we are the best and worst of ourselves all at the same time.”“I don’t love you in spite of your body. I love you with it, as you are, and I’ll never be anything but [effing] proud to be yours.”

Awesome
Really good book, especially the topic of being curvy and knowing how mean folks can be regarding big girls. Loved how the author addressed all issues about body shaming, finding love and self esteem... Highly recommend, ohhhh and the spice 5alarms lol

The Fat/Plus Size Representation is IMMACULATE!

While more books are being written with fat/plus size representation, there is still a major lack of quality representation. Misadventures of a Curvy Girl is a great example of quality representation. As someone who has been fat/plus size my entire life, I related so much to Ireland throughout the entire book. She actively fights against her internalized fatphobia and wants to live her life fully without letting thoughts from others/society about her body get in the way. There were countless times that Ireland would say things about her body and I realized I've said those same things to myself. I was challenged by this book to interrogate the internalized fatphobia I have and to make active changes to love myself. I'm by no means where I want to be, but it's an ongoing choice I make every day.Caleb and Ben are just perfect. The way they make it known that they desire Ireland's in a non-fetishized way is the hottest thing. They are truly attracted to her because she's what they like and they aren't afraid to be with her. I've never read about characters being so into a fat/plus sized body that it took me by surprise. I need a Caleb and Ben of my own immediately.Sierra Simone is one of my favorite authors. I love her writing style and the way she approaches the different topics in her stories. She has some of the most immaculate spice I have ever read. This book was hot and the men did not hold back during spicy time. I love everything about this book and I recommend it to everyone, especially fat/plus sized folks because it is great representation!

Think I need to get myself to Kansas.
I stumbled upon Sierra Simone recently when twitter told me to go find Priest (seriously people go find it now! Go on) so when I saw she had penned a Misadventures book I had to get it.Well, it was released this morning and I am now in the pits of post book depression so I think I have to start it again immediately. We have Ireland, our titular curvy girl, and the story of what happens when she’s sent out to Kansas with her work. From the moment I met her I loved her. She’s honest and fun and like most of us, has some body issues. Enter Caleb and Ben and bam, hooked.I laughed at some bits and I clenched my fists at others. Sierra hit me where it hurts with some of the descriptions of how Ireland sees herself and how she thinks the world sees her. Nailing the insecurities that most women, included me, feel about themselves like she was truly inside my head.I’ve read a lot of books and this has stood out enough to make me write a review. Now go read it yourself while I go recommend it to all my friends.

One of my favourite reads of 2021
I usually pass books on when I've read them, but not this one. I couldn't part with it and know I will read this again. I thoroughly enjoyed this. It has all the body positive vibes and lots of spice.

What. A. Book.
I started out thinking that this would be a fun, hot read about a polyamorous relationship. It’s that, but it’s so much more! The way that the author addresses body confidence , a fat shaming society, unconventional love and fighting prejudice had me in tears. The book spoke to some of my anxieties and fears and attests that love in any form is ok; it’s allowed. Outstanding.

Stunning and so honest
This book is just stunning! The usual breathless hotness I've come to expect and love from Sierra, but what hit me most was the inner voice of India and her reaction to the world's perception of her and her perception of that view!..not going to lie, i cried so hard towards the end, i know those feelings so well...heartbreaking but wonderful. GO READ IT

Great Plus Size Woman Romance
I have read books by this author before and enjoyed them all. This story was not different. I loved that the story was about a plus sized woman and the issue plus women have in getting real attractive men or men they are hot about to be just as passionate about them.Great read.
