DOA unit, will reorder/retry - concept seems good
Did not work - unit failed to connect (DHCP), orange ezOutlet - Internet IP-Enabled Remote Power Reboot Switch (AC Power / Single Outlet / iOS / Android / Web Interface) light continued to flash. 'Add" button had no effect, would not enter 'add' mode. Nor did that button (held) for a factory reset. Possible button itself faulty. Unable to test unit functionality. No further support or troubleshooting available. Will probably re-order and try again.ELI5 the unit works by 'pinging' an internet address (e.g. 8.8.8.8) outside of you local network (LAN), out in the wider internet, that should always be there (e.g. Google): if this unit cannot 'ping' it (i.e. just check it is reachable) then chances are your local link to the wider internet is down and cycling the power outlet on this unit may solve this, so long as you set up for your local network router/cable modem/dishwasher devices (or their power strip) to be powered from the unit's outlet. It is the equivalent of "can't reach google! ok power everything on and off again, see if that works"The latest firmware permit you to choose what external site(s) to ping earlier was a fixed internet address in Taiwan(?)

Don't hesitate! It started saving me bucks the minute installed!
I must say that Amazon reviews are very helpful, and a big thanks to all of those that take the time to do so. I am absolutely THRILLED with the ezOutlet. I own a property 6 hours away that is completely automated. A symptom of the bigger issue is most likely that my router needs replacing due to about a once a month lock up….which either requires an unplanned trip there,or hiring a concierge service ($80 per visit) to restart a device that takes maybe 15 seconds. Even if I do replace the router, I haven’t owned one yet that doesn’t need a reboot occasionally so I figure it’s a good investment regardless. I had researched remote management capable wireless routers, but the cost and security issues seemed onerous. The unit paid for itself the minute I plugged it in. I was up in running in less than 20 minutes, including the Iphone app download and a firmware update for the unit itself. The unit worked set in automode with a simulated internet outage, it also gives you the option to manually power cycle at your convenience. I am curious if the app will notify me in the event of an automatic reboot. Highly recommend!

works like a charm
Added more to this comment on September 17, 2105 - I've changed phones twice, installed the management app the first time I changed phones to make sure I can still access the unit. Changed phones again recently but didn't even bother to configure the app - this thing just runs and does exactly what it says it does. I haven't bothered changing any configuration since I first put it in place. My 5 stars stand solid on this review. The only advise I would provide the manufacturer is to lower the price to about $50 - I would've bought 2 of these gadgets if it didn't cost nearly $80. Or at least provide discounts when purchasing more than one.pretty easy to use and setup. i have a router that requires a "drop-kick" every couple of days. this little gadget recycles the power when it can't reach the internet via my router. plugged it in and setup it up on friday... made a few adjustments over the weekend and has been working like a charm since. I haven't lost internet connectivity due to a router needing to be rebooted. This piece of gem does that for me. Ask me in 6 months how it's going, though.

SEEMS TO WORK AS ADVERTISED - Read
I have a Comcast provided router and service.Like many other people reporting problems with loss of internet, every few days, I had to manually power cycle the router (Shutting off and re-applying power). I installed this device (by the way quite easy to install) with the hope it would be a solution to my problem .Today, four days after I installed it,I experienced a loss of the internet (wifi connections) just as before (no internet connection to the computers; loss of functionality of alarm cameras, etc.). The ezoutlet automatically sensed that internet connection was down. It automatically turned off the power to the router and automatically turn the power back on to the router. A few minutes later, everything was back in service just as if I had done the procedure manually.Hopefully, it will continue to work like this.It is definitely a useful device, particularly if you are not home for an extended period of time and you continue to need the internet working while away. I am thinking of alarm systems which rely on the router for monitoring purposes and broadcast for example pictures or the premises that you are monitoring.

Saves a 7 hour road trip
Unit preforms exactly as described. NB: Care must be taken if used as a "reset only" device. You have to set the ezOutlet to give your back end systems time to reboot, recycle, and come up fully. Also, it's not mentioned that these can be accessed via port 80 with no username and password by default on the local LAN. Fortunately I did a security audit before deploying these and was able to set a user name and password via HTTP (doesn't do HTTPS for local access.) I have not tested to see if remote access is encrypted, but I suspect not with no evidence this is so.Note that the 2 outlet unit appears to be another system, so don't read anything into the one outlet to be true of the two outlet system.

Great device
Review is written against home use - these devices have no place in an SMB / enterprise environment.Works like a charm, extremely easy to setup. Only major issue issue that it would be nice if remote access was https not http (ie remote web admin is unencrypted). Strongly suggest setting the device with static ip and changing ping check to a reliable address (such as opendns name servers). If you want remote offsite access (ie the main purpose of this other an auto reset) add this device to an isolated VLAN and port forward using a port other than 80 or 443. Between a physical VLAN and security through obscurity this will provide adequate protection for a home, not foolproof but good enough.
