Great book for new snoeshoers
My husband and I have just started to snowshoe. We live in Fort Collins, so this book is perfect for us. The trails are pretty accurate, although we did get quite off track (and into some potentially dangerous avalanche areas) during one of the hikes because of how the directions were laid out. Otherwise it's a great book for beginners. It doesn't have all the trails for RMNP, but those can be accessed through their website. Thanks for writing such a great book!

Perfect!
What can I say - I got this book out of the library and used it to plot a couple of treks for visiting family. Its got a good range of routes with descriptions of the trailheads, accurate round-trip distances and elevation gains, and avalanche risk. Its even got the routes by Moffat Tunnel that aren't well documented in other books I've looked at.If you want to snowshoe on the front range this book is for sure a good starting place and might even be everything you need.

Great book, but double check the maps to be safe. For example, the location of Vance's Cabin shown on the topo map depicting the route from Ski Cooper is incorrect by a wide margin.

Best Book for Both Basic and Advanced Snowshoe Enthusiasts.
If you're going snowshoeing in Colorado, or even thinking of going snowshoeing, or just want to read about it from your armchair, you need this book. The author is truly one of the most articulate and experienced experts in the field, who has hiked many of the great hikes around the world. (e.g., he's personally passionate about almost all outdoor adventures.) At his personal seminars, attended by both beginners and advanced enthusiasts, as well as those in-between, he is able to clearly answer questions at every level, about every aspect of snowshoeing, in an easy, self-effacing and obviously expert manner. But this book is even better than his seminars because Apt gives the technical details--mileage, maps, directions, terrains--for over 30 different routes, the things to watch for, some of the history, some of the lore, in a direct and very readable style that you can carry with you! The introduction, "The Snowshoe Revolution," is itself worth the price of the book. What else can I say: this is a great book. It is THE guide book for Colorado Front Range snow shoe routes.

Great Book
As a long term hiker but relatively new to snowshoeing, this book was a Godsend. I really appreciate the maps, the personal views, the tips to make things go easier. It's like having a top notch snowshoeing expert showing you tips and tricks he has picked up from many, many hours on snow shoes. Makes the whole experience much more enjoyable. I can highly recommend this book. Well worth the money.

Interesting information but vague and not complete
It seems to me that the author writes his memories of all these trails and it is interesting information. However, quite incomplete as to what I am looking for. The maps are so minimalistic, it is a joke. Having on the same map how to get to the trailhead AND the hike itself cannot work. If you get lost on the trail on a snowday, this book will not help you avoid a night in the mountains. No topos, not even indications of summits and other recognizable viewpoints.Regarding avalanches, some information is given but again, very vague. No committment from the author is given, no useful information as to alternate routes in case of avalanch risk.To summarize, this book is valuable from a tourist standpoint, that wants to know where in the mountains there are interesting hikes and what is interesting about them. Now, if you are looking for a guide book, that will allow you to go there on a snowy day, improvise a little, don't get this one.I don't have any recommendations for another one, as I have not found that other book yet.
