L'Inferno 1911 Haxan 1922 Silent Horror Classics

As expected... Sort of
I bought this not really expecting much since it's not a legitimate DVD release by a big company. I got it in the mail the other day and I was a bit hesitant to test it out at first because of past experiences with buying "bootleg" DVD's but I have to say I'm very pleased with my purchase. The packaging looks very cheap and simple. The cover is what you see in the picture shown but the pixel quality and Photoshop job aren't all that great and it started to bring back bad bootleg DVD flashbacks. Anyways I popped this in and was immediately greeted with a simple menu presenting me with my two movie options. I had already seen "Haxan" so I selected "L'Inferno." The quality of "L'Inferno" is pretty poor but that was due to the age of the film itself and not the DVD. The movie was good and was what I expected, but one thing I didn't expect at all was what the soundtrack was. This is not the original soundtrack to "L'Inferno" but that's not a bad thing. The soundtrack was nicely edited and was pieced together from different horror music/ambience that you can find on YouTube. To my surprise, this in no way ruined the experience. It added to the creepiness and, combined with some of the visuals, made it way better in my opinion because "L'Inferno" isn't one of those silent movies that should have a regular score like "Nosferatu" where most of the time the music sounds peaceful and light. There are a few small moments though where the music doesn't really match up with what's going on. For example there's a scene where a woman is talking to a man and as they're having this conversation, this really dark and overly creepy sounding music is playing. But that, for me at least, didn't ruin the experience whatsoever and that was the only really noticeable part. Lastly, both of these movies are in black and white only. I only say this because the times I've seen Haxan, the film had scenes in red, yellow, and blue. These movies are just plain black and white. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase and I definitely do recommend.

Entertaining
My kids actually liked this horror classic. Well done and a good copy of the original black and white movies from a hundred years ago. Entertaining and nicely done.

NOT FOR KIDS ! Should be added to a collection along with Nosferatu and Metropolis.
Amazing movies and worth it !!

Good way to have two very rare and early films
I haven't watched "Haxen" yet because I already own it on another DVD. I wanted "L'Inferno" very much and this was the only product I could find of it. I had watched a bit of it on YouTube but wanted to own it for myself. My own disappointment -- and it's a small one -- is that the YouTube version has some tinted scenes whereas this is all black and white. But that was not important, because I have it and can watch it at my leisure. And I must say -- I think all who appreciate silent/early films really must see this one at least once!

Early horror classics
Although i have given this four stars, which it deserves for the impresibe visuals for the time these films were made. L'Inferno is a classic epic that should be remade based from Dante Aligheri's La divinia Comedia or the the divine comedy and Haxan or the witch is an intersting insight into the world of witchcraft through the middle ages and its connection to conditions of what people believed to be possesion. It is half documentary and half movie. There are interesting dramatic scene of science and socerey shown and scenes of demons that are frighten for the time it was made. These are worth watching for horror film enthusatist and people with an interest in early cinema

Won't watch L'inferno again after seeing this.
I read good reviews about L'inferno & was curious.Dante goes to Hell for a 3 hour tour. A three hour tour. There are only a couple good scenes in this movie. The last scene was the best. The devil is casually munching on a poor decrepit soul with his legs hanging out. Most scenes have half naked guys stretching their arms at Dante as if they are doing calisthenics.Who wants to see that ?I like the Haxan. I already have it on blu ray.FYI - The Haxan on this dvd in untinted, straight up black and white. The Criterion blu ray is tinted, which I like.
