Elie is a great author with a compelling subject but also a subject ...
Very well written but also very troubling to me. I was hoping for a peaceful resolution with neither man dying but that didnt happen. But that is me not the author. Elie is a great author with a compelling subject but also a subject which is horrifying. If only man could get beyond man's inhumanity to man.

It brings out the ugly side of evil mankind
Great read, now I have to read Dawn and Day. Unbelievable what has happened not to long ago. Read it so it doesn’t happen again.

Literarily, Historically, and Morally Questionable—at Best
Were I writing about "Night," my headline would be completely different. But, in this novella, Wiesel overloads the reader with dubious symbolism, metaphor, and dream-like passages, all of which beg for translation into meaningful prose. Probably, only a master of the Kabbalah could even imagine he can unveil the true meaning behind all of Wiesel's "literary devices." Historically, the novella suggests that such terrorist acts against the British authorities in Palestine were normative within the Yishuv. The scenario depicted in Wiesel's narrative can be historically aligned only with the Irgun, a paramilitary unit excluded from the mainstream politics of the Yishuv. The references to the "old man" would, to any reader familiar with the early history of Israel, appear to be a reference to Ben-Gurion, but Ben-Gurion was (as a general rule) an adversary to the Irgun. Morally, although Wiesel's novella ultimately rejects any moral justification for terrorism, Wiesel never provides any ethical differentiation between the British judicial execution of Jewish terrorists and the Jewish murders committed in reprisal. All said, I find this literary work unsatisfying on several levels. It's not representative of Wiesel at his best.

As expected
The media could not be loaded. Book came quickly. Description accurate. Corner are a little beat up, but that's to be expected with a used book. Would purchase from this seller again.

Suspense!
Our Author, Mr Wiesel, has mastered writing a suspenseful novel, keeping we, his readers, on the "edge of our seats!" Will Elisha cross the moral line and kill? As we become entrenched in this story we cannot help but ask ourselves the same questions that Elisha battles. Do you think the hostage deserves to die? Honestly, I asked myself this question: "Do I believe that trading a life for a life is morally right?" "Dawn," is definitely not what I expected it to be. The writing is excellent and the drama is riveting, however, I am still somewhat disappointed.

Powerful
The second book in the trilogy does not disappoint. Leaves you with the shock as you really don’t expect the ending.

Bautiful agony
Reading Elie Wiesel for the second time, in his English translation, is a pure delight. I can't tell about his original writing in French, but I can assure that the agony of his stories are totally beautiful. In this story, which follows his auto-biography on the Nazi extermination camps, Elie Wiesel builds the agony of a Jewish executor, who is fighting against his believes, principles and thoughts before executing a victim and enemy of the Jewish revolution for the freedom of Palestine. This emotional preparedness for a tragic final is developed in a very simple and human way and that makes it perfectly plausible.

So many feelings in so little words. This is a book I would read again and again. So many things to discover!
