Both my grandson and my granddaughter use it all the time. It is the basis for all kinds of play. From a family doll house, small animal home, to dragons and battles. Well lived and VERY well made. Sturdy and no sharp edges. Use from toddler up to school age, we haven’t outgrown it yet.

I bought this for my son's 5th birthday, and I was so excited about it because I knew I would play with it too! The reviews were awesome, and the price was great, so I didn't hesitate. I'm glad too, because we've only owned this four days and it gets played with constantly by my 5 year old son and my 2 1/2 year old son. I purchased several Schleich knights, horses, dragons and a catapult to go with. They are a little too big, like some people mentioned, but fit perfectly on the balconies and tower tops (and they are superbly beautiful little action figures, I'd like to add). They don't fit through the trap door that goes into the dungeon (which has a sliding jail-type door by the way), but my boys have some tiny ninjas that fit the bill.Sturdy, beautiful, fun. This is a great toy for boys and girls. I even bought the Papo queen, because I figured the knights would need a damsel in distress to rescue from the dragon, but unfortunately they haven't learned the act of chivalry yet and they chase her around the castle trying to kill her, as if she were a bad guy. But we'll work on that.

We bought this for my 3 year old boy for Christmas and my boys now 10 and 5 still enjoy playing with it. I put it away in his room and somehow it ends up in my family room constantly with star wars guys, knights or race cars in it.The castle is durable, nice wood with lots of cool rooms for hiding guys. It folds easily into a square. Guys can stand at the top of the towers. The draw-bridge broke, but we can still get the door open and closed.So many imaginary play toys such as this are geared for girls, pink or doll houses, so this was a great find for my boys. Educationally, as a speech pathologist, I think this is one of the greatest ways of encouragaging speech and language development through imaginary play. (If you do have a girl, they make a pink version of this castle).The Melissa and Doug kings/queen set is cool for this toy. We have also bought the more expensive knights sold at Target/Fat Brain toys which also fit into the castle well.Great toy for the money. I shopped around and saw different sized castles and prices and felt nothing compared with the quality for the price. We have enjoyed it for 2 years!

Of course Melissa and Doug are known for their quality toys and this castle is no exception. Very durable and beautifully made, it has been a favorite toy of my eight year old son and even his 3 year old sister. We also purchased the Imagenex ghost figure and a few knights to go along with this set and it has been awesome. The castle has just enough painted detail to look great, but not so much that it interfers with the imaginative play. I also love that the castle opens and close up for storage, and one of the towers can be easily removed. The jail is a little tricky to get a hand inside to retrieve a prisoner. I wish the bars could open from the front, instead of the flipping trap door at the top. Only the 3 year old can get her hand in to get any toys out my son has "arrested" unless he flips the entire castle upside down to shake out the toy. Other than that, I look forward to many years of play with this castle.

Bought this for grandsons 5th birthday, along with Schleich and Pappo knights and horses. He(and his 2 brothers and 3 cousins) absolutely LOVE this! It's good for hours of playing. Have to watch when the 2 year olds come around but things have held up well. BTW, the 5 year old announced loudly," The war starts at 20:30......He can't tell time yet. Cute to watch

Unlike all of the people whose reviews I've read where they stated they bought the castle for a child, I bought it for myself. I collect castles and make dioramas with them for my own enjoyment. This is now the largest one I have and I am delighted with it! I plan to add characters from Papo and Schleich, as well as figurines and accessories I have created, including a feast in the great hall and a jousting tournament on the castle "grounds" which I will landscape from foam and craft materials.It is true that the Papo and Schleich figurines are just a tad too tall to "walk" through the doorways (other than through the main entrance at the drawbridge), but if you place them on the towers, ramparts, and balconies they look to scale. They are an eighth inch too tall for most doorways, many only about one sixteenth of an inch too tall.The castle is well made and very sturdy. The wood is sanded smooth and the painted details really make it authentic looking. It opens and folds together easily and smoothly.I am truly delighted with it and am considering buying another to put with it thus enlarging it for even more diorama possibilities. The only problem is where to move some of my furniture....

This is an excellent toy - very high quality. It is well made and an attractive design. It has a lasting appeal for children of a broad age range.

Very well presented product. Bought for Christmas, so durability not tested, but looks sturdy. Foldability a major plus as easy to store when not in use.Had thought to build one, but at this quality and price, not worth the trouble.Al

Extremely well made and the size is just right for 6 year old so not easily outgrown. Details are great. Very pleased with purchase.
