Good book
Loved the book. Liked that history is woven into it. And its fiction part could be conceivablely true. Love books based on history.

A sweet story
I enjoyed every word of this book. It was heartwarming and distressing at the same time. What terrible havoc was wreaked in London during World War II. I would have given this book 5 stars except I did not feel that the ending had enough resolution. There were too many questions left in my mind.

Great short story
I love this story. Made me appreciate how lucky I was that I didn’t have to go through that horrible war. Aside from the atrocities that the characters had to go through the story was so touching. I love how much Maggie and Jack felt for each other. And the fact that they had a wonderful Christmas was just what the story was about. My dream for this story is that Maggie and Jack adopt Peter and everyone lives happily ever after.

A heartwarming read
An engaging short story that takes place during one of the bombings in London during World War II. Their home, in fact their neighborhood, was destroyed and left Maggie and jack with the clothes on their backs. With no money and Maggie‘s discussed for the bombs shelters, they wandered until Jack found what they thought wasn’t an abandoned home. They were surprised To find a young child alone in the home. Having lost a child Maggie, for finding the little boy was a Christmas miracle. What transpires after a bomb destroys that house is miraculous. Set on Christmas Eve. This is a heartwarming read.

Story of Kindnesses, Survival, Changes, and Hope
Jack and Maggie Harris are barely living through the worst time for most Londoners during Christmas and World War II. It’s not only a time of frightening bombings, packed shelters, little food, or any good cheer except what you can make yourself; this is another Christmas without their little girl. Jack survives by questionable means and Maggie falls into a deeper attitude of depression. Then comes a night of loss that Maggie can take no more and Jack must follow. Taking shelter in a mansion with plenty, Jack thinks in his usual way and Maggie falls to her normal fears until a small boy appears. This Christmas story is one of true hope amidst troubling times. Jack and Maggie will find something more inside themselves and among strangers that will lead to change. This time of year is meant for all, as the title leads us to find the words to the beautiful song, What Child is This. The fourth, or last, verse contains the most telling words “…all tongues and peoples own him” and “…let loving hearts enthrone him”. Rhys Bowen’s short story is meant for every and all.

A Bit of Truth, Cast as Fiction
I chose this story on the recommendation of a friend. She said I wouldn't be disappointed, and she was so right! It's a story for our time, as well, teaching us how to face the unthinkable and survive. 'The child' is a rich family's only boy, somehow left alone in his home in London's West End after a bombing raid. The couple who sought refuge in the house after theirs was lost in the fire of an incendiary bomb on the East Side of the city. But what they share is a need to feel safe, to have someone to care for. I want to know the rest of the story! This glimpse of a crisis leads to a personal change for all the people in the story, and I'd like to know how their lives unfold in the light of Hitler's war against the Britains.

I didn't realise this was a short story, but I was so glad that I was able to read it in one sitting. It have you heart ache for the loss of their child, the horrendous feeling of living through war, luck in that they found the young child which then led to luck for them, and it all ended not like a fairy story but the love that some humans can give to strangers when in need. Our world could do with a lot more of this

This Story travelled beautifully along what would have been a really emotional time for those living with the bombing. The characters were very real. Loved this
