Really wish it came with a CD
I bought this book shortly before my first child was born and just pulled it out again now that he's 4 1/2 and wanted to hear some lullabies. I loved finding the lyrics to lullabies I remember from my childhood, like "All Through the Night" (which we called "peas attending," mishearing the lyric "peace attend thee").But we didn't use it much because for me, it's hard to learn new songs just from the printed music. I really, really wish this book came with a CD of all the songs, not to play for the baby but for the parents to learn from. Feierabend's CD Round and Round the Garden includes six from this lullaby book, but I would really like a CD of all 75 or so songs.I found the way the verses are typeset to be kind of odd. The first verse of each song is printed with the music. Then each verse is also printed separately in paragraph form, including the first verse. For songs with only one verse, that verse is still repeated later on the page, under the music. I would much prefer to have all of the verses up with the music, such as you would find multi-verse songs in a hymnal.

No guide for music
I am debating on returning this book or not. I do like that it has so many lullabies and sheet music to follow along with. What i dont like is that i dont know all these different languages and have nothing to use as a vuide. (A CD with music as well to learn rhythm and pronunciation.

Good for playing with kids, not piano solos
Excited to try this! 🎼 One thing though - I was hoping it would have more embellishment in the music - it’s basic melody notes for music with lyrics and a picture. Book If you want a piano lullaby arrangement book, this is not it. If you want something simple to sing or play with children, this book is great 😍

Useful and cute
My nephew has been quite vocal since birth (apparently it can be traumatic for some) and my American brother and Greek sister-in-law quickly exhausted their lullaby repertoire. This book contains quite a few lullabies from all over the world (perfect for their multi-cultural family) along with simple melodies (i.e. not just the words) so you can learn to sing them and not just read out the lyrics. This has the added bonus of giving them some piano practice while entertaining the little one! (New parents have to quickly master multi-tasking...) The only drawback is that it's not spiral-bound so you can't easily prop it open on the piano stand. With the amount of use it gets, though, it will soon be easy enough to fold it open, I imagine.

A Great Collection of Lullabies
An almost comprehensive collection of lullabies from around most of the world. None from Native America or the Pacific Islands. Both music (the melody line) and lyrics are provided. This is a great book for those who wish to sing to their child Those interested in the lullaby as a music form, perhaps the earliest songs of humanity, will find this collection very useful, but information about the sources is lacking. I read music and can play most of these on Native American flutes, and I am sure the player of any instrument could play them as well. The chording is not indicated, but any musician can figure out what chords to play to accompany a singer or someone playing these simple tunes.

It's never too early to introduce your baby to good music
I didn't get this book until my daughter turned 14 months old. I wish I had it earlier then she would be introduced to more than just "Rock-a-Bye, Baby" for her first 14 months. Now, every night, I sing three of four different songs to her from this book. My favorites so far are "All the Pretty Little Horses," : All Through the Night," and "Huna Blentyn (Sleep, My Baby)." The music notation is great for me, a musician, to practice sight singing when trying to learn a new tune. I think this is a great book and I am looking forward to buy more song books from the First Steps series.

This is a wonderful collection of tunes that are satisfying
This is a wonderful collection of tunes that are satisfying, soothing and imaginative. They are all folk tunes collected by scholars, which means they have already withstood the test of time for quality, and they are in the public domain. Not that babies care... Folk wisdom says that you should sing a lullaby twice and hum it for the third time, which puts the baby to sleep. Enjoy this delicious collection!

Nice collection of songs
Ice books with a variety of songs from different origins. Written in staff notation - you’ll need to be able to read music.
