Disappointed!
I love Moon Handbooks, but have noticed with the last couple of purchases the books are much smaller and don't talk about the quirky, out of the way places I find so interesting. It happened with the 7th Edition 2009 Colorado book, and now the 6th Edition 2011 Idaho book. In our travels we have found some really fun places in Idaho like Heise Hot Spring (with fun small golf course, restaurant and campgroung next door). Also, found in the Idaho 2001 edition was Aspen Acres near Ashton. It is a campground/golf course built out in the middle of nowhere on an old farm with a great view of the Tetons from the west side. It's not all about golfing either. In the 2001 edition we found Warm River, ID. It isn't mentioned in the new Handbook either. There is a great campground right on the Warm River. We did a fun mountain bike ride right from the campground and fed the huge trout that congregate near the bridge. Lots of our friends ask, "How do you go about planning your trips and find these out of the way places?" I always tell them about my collection of Moon Handbooks. I thought with 10 years passing since my last Idaho Moon Handbook purchase it was time for an update. I find myself referring back to the old editions of both Colorado and Idaho to be sure I'm not missing something fun and interesting along the way. I would gladly pay a little more to get more information. Disappointed!!

Good, but organization could be better.
Although some have criticized this addition for not being as detailed as others, as one who has used the Moon series a number of times, I've found it quite adequate and detailed to the degree one can reasonably expect. One of my main reasons for choosing the Moon books for US travel has been their greater inclusion of the features of smaller towns and this edition continues that practice. My one criticism of this particular book is that the organization into multiple state geographical sections has been carried to such an extreme that it is somewhat difficult and time consuming to follow a particular route for any significant distance without having to change to a different section, especially if one is going in the opposite direction from the author in each section--there's no way to start at either end!

Not as good as the previous edition
This edition of Moon Idaho has new information, but it does not have as much information as the previous edition. For example, the 5th ed had a section on scenic drives in the index, not the 6th ed. The 6th ed. has many spelling errors. They obviously used a spell checker that could not determine proper usage like using 'one' for 'on' etc.

Moon Idaho
One of our favorite places to travel is Idaho, so we have purchased an issue for ourselves as well as several more as gifts for family members and friends. This handbook is a useful tool to discover new experiences in Idaho. The author seems to enjoy writing about this beautiful and diverse state. His personal style comes through and we enjoy his sense of humor and lively descriptions.

Not many color photographs.
This guide has lots of written material but not tons of photographs and very few in color in the front only.

Try A New Edition
When we purchased this guide to Idaho, it was very much up-to-date and we used it on many trips. Now, however, it is a bit dated (although not out-dated).

Used this guidebook this past summer while touring eastern Idaho. Helped me find some interesting places that I probably wouldn't have known about otherwise. I tend to use it mostly for interesting locations and facts and information, and use hotel/restaurant review sites for dining and accommodation. St. Anthony sand dunes, Idaho Potato Museum, EBR Atomic museum, Teton Dam Site failure -- all interesting spots I might not have come across without this book.
