Not a smart phone but some smart capabilities.
Bought for my 12 year old to replace her former smart phone, which it's been decided she's not responsible enough for, but I still want her to have a way of communicating with me when need be.This is not a smart phone. First and foremost. However I needed to find a phone which would work with a Mint Mobile SIM card, and had 4g service at a minimum. Most of the flip phones out there are only 3g. So this one fit my basic requirements.Even though it is branded Cricket, the device I received IS unlocked.Con: the back cover which you need to remove to add the battery, sim, and optional SD card is VERY difficult to remove. I don't plan on swapping out any of that any time soon!Pros: not at smart phone. It does have I ternet access but you're not going to downloading apps. But you can get to sites like YouTube and many others. Downside: if you're in my boat where you're trying to limit your child's YouTube usage ... This can be a little of both. But hey, if you tell your kid to Google something that is possible.Has a built in music player and capability for up to a 32 gb SD card. Daughter was happy that she can listen to music.Kid has to learn T9 texting. That's a learning curve.Capable of talk and text.Durable. Without need to buy a protective case.Bluetooth enabled. So using it with wireless headphones is a possibility.Wifi capable so if you're trying not to use your data it's an option. Very difficult to turn off the wifi however. When it's in standby mode the battery lasts FOREVER it seems. I left it over a week without charging since kid wasn't using it for anything else at one point.Overall. If you're looking to simplify things this is a good pick.

Seemed ok at first… Overall sucks hard
Bought for my senior dad as he struggles to use a smartphone. Seemed good at first, but after a week started to degrade. First he was dropping multiple calls a day, then as the weeks progressed the quality of his mic became terrible. Half the time talking to him it sounded like he was 20ft away and trying to talk over speaker phone. Could not hear him at all. I keep telling him to talk closer to the mic. The mic seemed to finally pick up his speech if he stuck his phone inside his mouth. He could hear me fine though, so at least there’s that. Also he had trouble charging the phone and struggled to get it to a decent charge even after leaving it plugged in overnight. Outside return window by a week so no luck there. Disappointed.

Works well out of the box!
I don't know why there are so many complaints about this phone. Once you understand that it only works with GSM carriers (ATT and T-Mobile and their variants), there's really nothing to it. I was looking for a stupid phone (as opposed to a smart phone) to use with my Wal-Mart prepaid service, a T-Mobile variant. I opened the package, put my Wal-Mart SIM card in, put the battery in and turned on the phone. It works in every way. For $33 refurbished, it's a great deal!UPDATE - IMPORTANT!!!While I've been very happy with this phone since I bought it, using it on WalMart's Family Mobile prepaid service, I've now run into problems. I used Family Mobile because it uses the T-Mobile network, I needed that for several reasons I won't go into here. As of January 2021, T-Mobile is requiring that any phone used on their network be not only 4G LTE compatible but VoLTE compatible too. This phone is not. I only found out by trying to top up my phone and not being able. WalMart didn't notify me and won't refund what I spent on the top-up. So, as of Jan 2021, you need to look for a different phone just like I'm doing. In summary, this is an unlocked GSM phone that will only work with a SIM card from a GSM carrier. To all those that complain and scream bloody murder and fraud, I can only say you must not know what you're doing.

Very good basic phone for talk & text, needs better battery life & more volume.
This is a good basic phone for talk, texting, & e-mails. Has nice big buttons which is good for seniors such as myself. Works very well with my provider, Consumer Cellular. Also, it is very slim which is good for carrying in your front pocket. The display needs more pixel density as small letters are somewhat blurred. Navigation is simple & direct. I have The volume & ring loudness at maximum setting which is OK for me but for someone with any amount of hearing impairment would need more volume in my opinion. The loudness on speaker is sufficiently loud. The battery life could be better. If you talk & text a lot (more than 2 hours) you will need to charge it daily. If you don't talk more than maybe an hour a day you will need to charge it every 4-5 days or so. This is no biggie to me as I charge mine every 3 days anyway. Overall, I am happy with this phone & recommend it.
