Pharmako Gnosis: Plant Teachers and the Poison Path

This book is quite an adventure and a wonderful book for those who already have some knowledge of plants and their Latin names, uses and history. I highly recommend it to the intermediate student. A beginner may have a little trouble following but it is a well written text with a highly detailed section on each plant, genus, plant uses in history and in modern day times, as well as the occasional bit of trivia. In some places, it's almost as if the author has had a personal relationship with the spirit of each plant.

I’ve been into these subjects for about 25 years, and these books are some of the best I’ve read without question. I have no idea how it took me this long to get them. Truly detailed and accurate works of art. Phenomenal

The third installment of the Pharmako- series, Phamako/Gnosis addresses the more psychedelic and hallucinogenic plants and chemicals. Pendell does this with the skill that we would expect after the previous two books. Well written, and easy to read, packed with enough information for the advanced studier, and simple enough for the beginner.For anybody with an interest in the origins, history, use, science, and lore of these "poisons," this is a book that belongs on your shelf.

What an excellent and unusual book! The structure is unique, not for those who simply want to look up a plant and have it's effects and dosage listed in a chart. It's storytelling about each plant's guardian, and the free form description of it's effects gives you much to consider.

Amazing author! Combines great poetry and straightforward descriptions and history of the plants. Definitely one of the most enjoyable series of books I have ever read.

I bought all three books, so I was able to read them consecutively without a break in between and I was enraptured for the entire time. Couldn't put them down. These three books are beautiful.Poetic, informative, sneakily subversive, and personal.People looking for a straight textbook read might not like them as much, but I couldn't put them down.
