Much stronger than stock blade holder
I purchased a planer, and gave it a real work out, leveling the foyer and kitchen floor during a remodel. The planer worked great but I started going though blades very quickly, but only on one of the stock blade holders. I ordered this set, as I thought there was a problem with that blade holder not holding the blades secure enough. I received this set and the holders are made of a single piece of ground steel. Well I have to tell you I planed about 6 2x4s and about 8 1x3's down to a taper. The 2x4's were planed from paper thin on one side to full height on the other end, and they were cut to 7 feet long. I never broke a blade during the whole set. Before I added these I was going through about 4 sets of bladed a day. The only down side is that you have to transfer the small blade adjusters and two screws from the stamped set that came with the planer to this set. Makita sells those parts for like 3.00 each, if you want to purchase them, not a big deal, I will never go back to the stock stamped blade holders. I will admit that I caused the damage to the stock holders by hitting nails while planing down some of the kitchen yellow pine floor, but these should have been included with the planer, and not the light stamped metal ones that Makita installed from the factory.

Ticklish to install, but work fine
My Makita planer is old enough that it had solid one-piece blades. These were a surprise, clearly value-engineered to minimize the amount of expensive, hardened cutting steel required. I had to take my time to get them to fit correctly, but they fit this older planer OK. They haven't loosened and they cut as well as the one-piece originals. It does remain to be seen if they last as long.

great option for 1900B
I have the 1900B planer and it originally came with the high speed steel blades that need resharpening. Carbide disposable blades give a better finish and this kit coverts the 1900B to be able to use the standard dispoable blades that most hand electric planers use, which is good because I use a couple other planers that use carbide blades. To use these blade holders simply transfer the guide rail from the HSS blades and use the depth setting block the same way you set your HSS blades after sharpening. It would have been nice if these came with the guide rails so that I could leave the others on the HSS blades but most folks probably wouldn't need them after converting to this. I still use the resharpenable blades for some things but this conversion kit gives me more options.

Very reliable replacement blade for our Makita plane
The blade that came with our plane chipped fairly easily while planning some hard wood. This blade, while somewhat tedious to install, has been very effective.

Carbide blades renovated old hand held planer.
Carbide blades big improvement over old steel blades. my old Makita hand held planer had the original blades that were very worn and dull. YouTube had a video that showed how to change to carbide blades that are reversible. i bought the new blades and thr blade holder on Amazon, followed the instructions on the video. I found it all very easy to follow and in a few minutes had a sharp planer that functioned very well planning the bottoms on some old fir doors in a house renovation.
