String Trimmer, Electric Automatic Feed, 13-Inch, 4.4-Amp (ST7700)

September 2012 - After reading many of the reviews, I was hesitant to purchase this item. I started out with the battery model for the B&D trimmer and after charging 24 hours it worked for 15 minutes top. I returned the battery model and purchased the electric B&D model. I used it for the first time today and was able to complete an hour's worth of weed-eating and edging work. I was thrilled. I am a 55 year old woman and I find this trimmer easy to handle (except for the cord, but I don't mind that if it lasts more than 15 minutes.), light weight and quite powerful. My yard is 70' x 125' and I was able to complete almost all of the edging in a little over an hour. (I stopped because I needed a break, not because the trimmer lost power.)I also used all of the initial string and had to restring the trimmer with 0.065 string. This is usually my biggest test because I can never get the string on right. I followed all of the intructions and reloaded the string and was able to trim for another hour without fail. I hope and pray this trimmer continues to work. Will keep you all posted. EBApril 2013 - Season II - All is great. Today was our first real spring in Richmond, VA -- 90 degrees -- more like a shift from Winter to Summer instead of Spring. Anyway, I pulled the old B&D Electric Trimmer I purchased last year with my fingers crossed and to my surprise, it worked like a champ. I edged for over an hour --- that's my personal limit --- and all was fine. I must say, it is a lot better than the battery operated model. I changed the string with not problem and I didn't have any string problem until the end. I still have half of the yard to finish tomorrow, so stay tuned. If it gets me pass the more demanding part of the season, I'll give it a 5 Star because the first Spring cut after Winter is the worst. I was anxious but all worked just fine!August 2013 - Great Trimmer! I am going to order another just in case.May 2015 - Spring cleaning and lots of edging....Trimmer worked like a PRO! Trimmed 8750 sq/ft lawn plus flower beds. Worked continuously for 1.5 hours --- when I needed a break. All works well. I'm impressed and I'm ordering a new one today to keep on hand. Five years of heavy use is not bad.

This is by far the best trimmer I've owned in a long time. I've used it 5 times now to trim and edge my yard, and I haven't had a broken line yet, and it feed remarkably well. I am still using the line that was supplied on the spool, and that might be the reason it has performed so well. When it comes time to replenish the line to the spool, I'm going to try ensure that it is wrapped neatly. I think the real test will be on the replenished spool. So the jury is still out on that. But so far it has earned it's 5 star rating. Well done Black and Decker. And no....... If I could, I would give it TEN STARS ! This is by far the best trimmer I've had the pleasure of using, and I've used a lot of them. Am sorry to admit I have wrapped a few around the trunks of large sturdy trees in desperation. I've never once had to hassle with broken lines or failure to feed, and I'm working on my 3rd spool of line, 2 of which I wrapped. Everything eventually wears out, so I'm debating on buying another ST7700, for a spare. You never know when B & D will decide to change the model, and possibly not get it right the next time.

This is a great price for a great weed whacker. I just got it yesterday, but I've already done my entire front and back yards and they look fantastic! It is very easy to use and not too heavy. The automatic string feeder makes using this item so simple anyone could do it. Also you can twist the handle so that it can edge sidewalks and patios. It's really easy to switch back and forth and it leaves a clean edge all around. Everything looks amazing. Also it has a cord keeper where you can loop the extension cord (not included) so that it doesn't unplug when you're using it. The only drawback at all is that the spool isn't very big and they're not super cheap. I got almost the entire yard done but ran out. I hadn't bought additional spools from Amazon but Lowe's carries them for a comparable price, so they're easy to find. All in all I'm thrilled with this and I highly recommend it to anyone! I love that it is electric and doesn't require gas, too.

Black & Decker is a reliable name whose products I have purchased over the years. I actually bought this particular product as a standby, but use it more than I thought I would. I have a very small lawn in the front and back and actually have someone mow the front lawn for me. However, my back lawn's grass is kind of weak and his equipment is too powerful, it always killed some of the grass, especially around the edges with the trimmer he uses. I decided to do it myself so I purchased this lightweight trimmer and it serves my purpose. My grass is in better shape than it was and I really don't mind doing such a small lawn this way. In early spring when the grass has started to grow, before this person starts his mowing season, my trimmer comes in handy to give a finished look to my front lawn. Again, I am using this on a very small lawn and it does a great job. Let's not forget it's intended purpose, it also does a great job trimming and edging.

This is probably one of the best tools in my shed. It is light, sturdy and simple to load and use. It is what it is, a string trimmer. As with all string trimmers, you will spend more time playing with the string and spool than mowing down weeds. The simplicity of this tool makes that chore less aggravating. The light weight of the trimmer makes even dragging the cord less of a pain. It does use a lot of string so you might consider winding your own spools to save a few bucks. For the money, this is a great trimmer. The price had dropped considerably since I purchased mine so I recommend you grab one quick before they disappear.
