every artist should have one!
An essential tool for all sorts of pen/pencil artistry. From perspective drawings to arts and crafts, you need one.Its construction is stainless steel with a cork backing. The cork prevents the ruler from sliding around on your work surface without adhering to it and tearing it up. The cork is also not too thick as to skew your reading of the measuring gradations too much. It also provides an "inking edge" for all your pen drawings.I have also come to use it as a straight-edge guide from my Xacto knife blades. Great tool!

A Good Westcott Ruler
A reliable ruler from Westcott. Features a cork backing to prevent the ruler from slipping during use.

Works well, flexible but not flimsy
It’s a ruler. I like the cork backing, which prevents it from sliding around when I’m using it to make straight lines on slippery material. As some reviewers have pointed out It’s flexible. But it doesn’t seem flimsy or cheaply made. My only complaint is that the tag is firmly adherent to the cork backing. I couldn’t remove it without damaging the cork. Put it somewhere else or make it easier to remove. Would recommend to others.

Solid construction, great value
I bought this because I need to cut cardboard and paper with a metal straight edge and knife, and my wooden ruler isn't quite up to the task. This thing is more than sufficient though. I haven't had any slippage problems, even when using only paper and cardboard under it. Though there's this annoyingly difficult to remove UPC sticker in the middle of the cork underside, it hasn't caused any slippage problems so I haven't even bothered to remove it and don't see any reason to.It's just a metal ruler, but it's less expensive than other ones of the same length and works just as well. If the metal were thicker then perhaps it would better resist accidental damage from bending, but since I'm the only one who uses it I'm not worried about it. About the only reason to spend more for a heavier ruler would be if it were being used by random people in a semi-public area all the time where it's more likely to be subject to abuse. Even in that situation though this thing would probably stand up just fine.

Great Ruler But
Great ruler, I've used one for years in my wood shop. Warning I wouldn't try to remove the manufacturers tag on the back of the ruler. It's very easy to mess up the cork on the back of the ruler. Why do manufacturers make removing their tags so difficult?

Good quality
Everything meets expectations. The ruler is square and straight with very clean edges. Markings are easy to read and have shown no sign of rubbing off. The cork on the back is thin and staying put.

Good Metal Rulers but...
I like using the metal rulers. I've got the 15" Westcott rulers and use them all the time. I wanted more so there is always one close to where I'm working.I thought the 18" 3 pack would be just like my 15" rulers. The 18" seems a little thinner, but the big issue that drops stars is the ruler doesn't start at the end. It doesn't start measuring until a few millimeters in so you can't push the ruler to the edge of an object to measure it. The picture shows the 18" ruler above the 15".I fixed this by grinding the edges flush to the 0 mm, 0 inch marks.
