It does the job with no problems
Update (Feb-2011): I initially gave this 5 stars, but it now only gets 1 because it no longer works! There is no visible damage and nothing appears loose, but I have swapped back and forth a few times with a different (£30 powered) splitter. The new one always works so I am satisfied the problem is the cheap splitter and not the cables or my equipment.Original (Jan-2011): I had a problem with my order, but the seller (TheAVSeller) resolved this immediately and to my total satisfaction. It is perhaps only when a problem occurs that one can really test a sellers quality. The Spliiter, contrary to reports I read about similar products, works fine (I am only using short reasonable quality cables).

Problem
I am sure this splitter works fine for some equipment but be warned it will not work on an old ps3 ie fat one the signal from the ps3 appears to be to weak no matter what I tried the sound will only come through the surround sound amp if ps3 is plugged directly into amp works fine on sky hd box so not a product problem just a ps3 one

Works like a dream.
I was sceptical about getting one of these because of varying reviews. This product is meant to be used for sending 1 signal to 2 devices, but like many I needed it to do the opposite.Having just had a Virgin TiVo box installed and finding that it handled its audio through an optical output, I was stuck with also having a PS3 and Xbox that did the same but an AV receiver that could only handle 2 inputs.3 into 2 doesn't go!!So chancing it I bought this and now have my PS3 and Xbox linked through, so just using one input space on the AV receiver. TiVo then using the other.WARNINGWhilst it works like a dream, you can only put one audio signal through at a time so have to make sure the other is on stand by (and that what you are using still doesn't send an audio signal in stand by - PS3 and Xbox seem fine). For a few pounds I've solved what I thought was going to be a right pain to get right.I hope you find the same.

It didnt do what iwanted.
I ordered this item hoping it would let me run the sound from my computer and my television through an optical lead. Unfortunately when both the TV and the computer were conected i couldnt get any sound until i disconected one of the items. I just wanted all my equipment to play through my Blu-Ray surround sound.

Lazy man's solution
One I received was this one TOSlink 2 way Optical Cable Splitter / Adaptor so a bit weird I get a different product then the one advertised (hence only 4 stars). It works, but took some force to get the cables in. If your using this as a switcher (instead of a splitter) make sure your device's optic cable only works when its on (turn it off, look at the cable to see if it glows red, if it does, you'll need an actual switcher).Used it to connect a 360 and PS3 to a sound system. No complaints once I got everything connected, a lot better than an actual switcher as I don't need to touch it now it's set up.

Rubbish
Absolute rubbish, does not work, both my optical sources had a red light when in operation and red light off when not in operation,so there shouldnt be any problems in detecting the single input, This splitter isnt strong enough to handle any of my 2 devices, it doesnt even work when you have one device running through it, do not waste your money, they are making money from the simple fact that the product is only a couple of pounds and most customers wont be bothered to return the product.

Check before you buy
An excellent product, does exactly what it is supposed to do hence the 5 stars. However, a tip for those of you wanting to route two different sound sources to a single sound system, rather than one sound source to two seperate amps: check on the back of your two devices that the optical out socket stops glowing red when the device is swiched off or on stand-by.Example: I bought this to route sound both from my PS3 and from my WD HDTV file streamer which reads video files from a hard-drive. The PS3's optical out stops glowing red on stand-by, so it doesn't interfere with the WD HDTV as long as I swich it to stand-by while the WD HDTV is playing. However the WD HDTV device's optical out socket continues to glow red even when on stand-by, so I can only hear the PS3's sound if I switch the WD HDTV off at the power source. This is still better than an optical SWITCHER as that would be MUCH bigger (the company sent me that first as a mistake - replaced it very fast without fuss - it was as big as my hand, this is only a little larger than a fizzy drink bottle top) and would require me to get out of my seat EVERY TIME to twist the chunky dial!
