Apple Lightning to Digital AV Adapter

I was looking for this adapter for a long time. Dish was charging me through the nose for their service and I just had to cut back on hemorrhaging money so I gave this adapter a try. I cut off my Dish service and saved a bundle by using this adapter. I got a good deal from ATT on DirectvNow and I use this adapter to mirror my phone to our 65" Samsung TV. I also have a Netflix account and mirror that on to the TV. And of course my Amazon Prive videos also mirror perfectly on the TV. I did some research and found a website of apple geeks that published an article on this adapter. they took one apart and tested the components. This little adapter has an actual micro chip much like a CPU inside which takes the output from the phone and sends it as HDMI to a TV or other screen with an HDMI input. According to the article there is software in the chip which essentially makes the transition from the iPhone output to HDMI. It also sends the audio. Because of that you should take care not to make a mistake and plug it somewhere where it will get zapped by an electric current. If you burn out the micro chip you can render the device worthless. I would protect it from a strong magnetic field also just in case. I have noticed that when first plugged in the video quality is very poor but slowly gets up to HDMI. I don't know what causes this but it doesn't bother me at all. I just keep watching and the picture gets sharp within a couple of minutes. I bought this adapter four months ago and it still works flawlessly. Once in a while it takes the iPhone a while to recognize the adapter which is kind of frustrating since all you get is a black screen. I found that it works best if plugged into the phone before you go from locked to unlock. It seems to recognize the adapter better. The adapter is recognized as an iPhone accessory and it is controlled through the screen mirroring app in the iPhone. You swipe from the bottom of the screen up and the screen mirroring controller will appear with the other available control for the iPhone. There have been times when the connection is lost and I have to play with the adapter and iPhone to get the connection going again. I'm not sure whether it is the adapter or the phone doing that. All in all I love this adapter and hope it lasts a long time. I am getting one for my wife also since she keeps stealing mine and we watch different programs. I would definitely recommend this adapter to anyone looking to watch Netflix, DirectvNow, amazon and youtube from their iPhone on a TV or monitor. It has worked great for me. And it is a genuine Apple accessory. That's why it works when the knock offs don't.

Works great and it allows you to watch anything from your iPhone on any TV that has a HDMI port! Some people on here say it doesn’t for some reason let you watch streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, or just any app that streams any video content) but it’s just simply not true! On any TV that has an HDMI port, which it’s insanely rare that you will even own or use a TV that does not have an HDMI port, you will 100% be able to watch anything on TV with this device that you can watch on your iPhone. I even watch DIRECTV through my DIRECTV app on any TV. It’s a must have especially in a place where there is not a internet connection like in rural areas or just any place with no internet. It just all depends on the type of service you get though if there is no internet connection. But, it all boils down to if you can watch it on your iPhone then you can watch it on a tv with this device. It just simply mirrors whatever is showing up on your iPhone screen. So, as soon as you plug it into your iPhone and then plug it into the TV you will immediately see whatever your screen on your iPhone is displaying! I take this with me every time I travel just Incase the hotel, vacation home, lakehouse, or anywhere that might not have internet, good Wi-Fi signal, or just Incase the place I’m at happens to loose internet service for a while or something? Just remember to invest in a lengthy hdmi cord so you can use it while you are in bed or sitting on the couch. If you do not want to buy a lengthy HDMI cord and you have two at your house then you can always buy an hdmi extension adapter to make two smaller hdmi cords just one longer hdmi cord to help reach wherever you are at. Buy, I highly recommend buying both (lengthy hdmi cord and extension adapter) so in case you go on a trip and the cord isn’t quit long enough you can just add another one from the place you are at, that is if they have another one? I bought a 15’, 20’, and even a 25’ hdmi cord and I have to say the 25’ cord is the one use the most because it’s never not long enough and I always can use the device while I’m in bed or wherever very comfortably. Lastly, since it has a charging port on it which is the best part I might add due to the battery consumption that streaming videos takes up on a phone. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to buy a iPhone chargrging cord (usb to lightning cord) that is much longer than the standard iPhone charging cord. If you want to use the long hdmi cord to use it while in bed or on the couch and you don’t have it charging then it’s pointless to even use the long hdmi cord or even the device itself. You don’t want to be using this and then go out and your phone is almost dead or if you want to use the device to watch something on the tv and your phone is almost dead. My point is you never know where the outlets are going to be in a place you have never been and you are wanting to have it on the nightstand or just close to you so you don’t have to get up and go hit pause, play, or switch to something else to watch. I hope this was thorough enough and helps answer any questions some of you might have. But, I promise this plays any streaming app your tv so please do not listen to anyone saying that it doesn’t because they are for some reason lying or they just have no idea what they are talking about?! Works perfectly. Make sure you know how to set up Bluetooth to headphones or separate speaker if your tv/monitor doesn’t have audio. For iOS just scroll from top right of screen and drag down to open up settings and then scroll down one tab to music tab and then you will see the option to switch audio to whatever Bluetooth device you are using.

This is an amazing little device - very simple and effective. The old versions of this device were cluncky, and it was hard to tell what they really were (chargers, composite cables, a hair ball of cables and a cube, etc.), and more importantly, how to use them. This version would make Steve Jobs proud. This product integrates with your existing stuff, use it on your phone to send/cast video to any device that takes input from an HDMI cable. It may help if I give a few examples on how we use this little gem. When on vacation, we use this, along with a spare HDMI cable, to bring movies on our phones as well as Netflix and Amazon prime to the hotel TV. Enough renting over priced movies from the hotel. The key to doing this is to take control of the TV from the hotel's network. I recommend finding the IP cable and unplug it, this will usually free up the TV, and allow you to change inputs. You obviously want HDMI 1 to allow it to cast what's on your phone. Be aware that Apple will cancel the feed if they think you're illegally projecting protected content (in this case you're not - you're just projecting content you have licensed to a larger screen). This review isn't about hacking TVs, but I'm quite good at it. I travel with a universal remote, access codes, and a couple of screwdrivers. We also use this product to cast movies, Netflix and Amazon prime onto our car's touch screen. My daughter has a new Homda HR-V and it accepts an HDMI cable. Connect this to you phone, connect an HDMI cable to this and you car's input, and you streaming video in seconds. A cool feature of this is that it has an input for a charging cable. This means you can charge your phone as you use it to cast video to your hotel, home TV or car touch screen. This newer product is so much more versatile, compact, and practical that the old versions (which I should state I loved). the old versions were great, but I really love this product! When you travel, throw this in the car along with a 3' HDMI cable and you'll have excellent flexibility in cast video. Many hotels are getting with technology and allow for use of these products. It's customer friendly, and prevents a maintenance call when the guy before you, hacks the rooms TV, and forgets to put the TV back when they checkout. I hope you found this review helpful!

I bought this to view sports events off the WATCH ESPN on my IPhone 7 Plus. Friends, it works GREAT !!!! Once connected, it has always stayed connected just fine and the picture on the TV set is even better than my Dish Satellite picture. Don't know if that's because of the internet feed, but if it is, this adapter is not losing any of the quality of the signal. This is the best thing I've bought in 2018. I use it almost daily. The best thing I like about it is the power jack that allow you to plug your power jack for you phone into the port on this and it charges your cell phone even as you are watching TV off your phone. The cost of this device was more that I wanted to pay to be honest, but it's worth it. You can't beat watching TV on the big screen off your cell phone. I have a YouTube App on my phone and I can watch all kinds of Television programming from that as well. I have the MY DISH app on my phone and anything that I can watch on my Dish Satellite system can be watched on my phone, so with this, when I travel, I can watch my dish network programming on any television set as long as I have an HDMI cable on-hand. Thrilled to death that Apple has come out with this marvelous product. I've watched TV before on my Iphone 7 Plus many, many times over the years, but it sure is nice to watch on a big screen TV instead.

The first time I used this adapter with my phone it required a firmware update, and the phone automatically updated the firmware on the adapter. Shortly after the update the device works just like the wireless Mirror function on the phone without having to enable the Mirror function. I was able to watch a three hour long video without interruption, or needing to plug in the Lightning cable to power up the adapter like a few other have mentioned in their review. The picture quality at 1080p resolution looks smooth and clear, but I have not tried it at 2k or 4k resolution so I cannot provide a review at the higher resolutions. The adapter cable is very short, and the size of the adapter is even smaller than the raised cameras square on the back of the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The thickness of the adapter is approximately the same as a standard HDMI cable jack. The weight of the adapter feels lighter than the Lightning charging cable that come with the iPhone. The only thing that I did not like is the manufacturer retail price. Overall, it is a great adapter to have and carry, for those moments when you want to mirror your iPhone to a display that does not support wireless mirroring, and also want something light and portable.
