Great vacuum, Consumer Report top buy
We have a German Shepherd, and if you've ever had one or a long-haired dog, you know how much hair they produce and how hard it is to keep your floor semi clean. Our old Eureka had been awesome, but it was showing its age and not doing nearly as great of a job as we'd have liked. After doing some research I initially wanted the latest Shark vacuum, but after reading Consumer Reports, I found that this vacuum was actually rated higher than the way more expensive vacuums out there, so I decided to give it a shot.Oddly, the day I looked into this vacuum it was the Lightning Deal of the Day, which was a pleasant surprise. With that, it was nearly $100 less than the Shark vacuum and definitely worth trying. The assembly was really straight forward and the instructions were clear. When put together I liked the height of the handle and the foot control for unlocking the base, as well as the power button being on the handle. The automatic cord winder was also a nice feature, and it worked rather well as long as you weren't in the path of the cord with bare legs to get whipped by it.The suction power of this vacuum is pretty darn amazing. After using the old vacuum for quite a while I was pretty impressed with how nice my carpet looked after a quick run over from the Hoover. It also impressed me of how much dog hair it picked up after only a few swipes across my living room. The hand held wand also packs a suction punch and had far greater suction than I was expecting, doing an amazing job of cleaning my couch and along the baseboards where hair seems to collect easily. The canister is also very easy to empty and it seems like the filter will be very easy to clean and replace later down the road. This was definitely not what I was expecting from Hoover, as I've been disappointed in the past with their line of vacuums. Consumer Reports nailed it right on the head that this was as good as the way more expensive vacuums on the market, and definitely worth buying. I'm really pleased with it and I hope it holds up well.

powerful vacuum with some maintenance needs
This is a relatively inexpensive vacuum. It has very powerful suction. The belt for mine broke within 3 months. Buy replacements from Target since they have real belts that are thick enough to handle the stretching. The thick belts will say they are genuine Hoover and not a generic like Walmart and Amazon carry. You have to pull very hard to get the belt on since it was designed to fit very snug. Don't be a sissy, imagine you are working out at the gym to get into shape to get an idea of how hard you will need to pull. I pull the large roller to get it on after I put the other side on and loop the belt around the roller. I think the belts tend to break if they start to rub against a non-moving part of the vacuum. The belts have to stretch at least an inch to get on.This vacuum will pick up hair, including dog hair well. Hair will get stuck on the roller and in the interior of the canister, so expect to have to rip it off.The suction is powerful. I had a metal spoon get stuck in the tubing. The green indicator signal starting turning red as a result. I had to unscrew and disassemble the vacuum in order to clean it out and all the dust balls that got stuck inside. One improvement would be to put a grate on the hose so it doesn't pick up large objects such as spoons or other objects that should be picked up by hand before vacuuming.I very much like the bagless canister design since I can tell when I need to empty it, which is often. I don't mind getting my hands dirty to clean it. The connection between the canister and the hose is just a rubber grommet. It could be improved to make a better connection. The hepa filter will need to be washed every so often to keep it somewhat clean. It is hidden from view, which is better than some other vacuums since it means a toddler will not be trying to poke a hole in it with their fingers. The motor will get moderately hot with use. Some earlier models had issues where it could get too hot, but those are no longer sold and were subject to a recall. The rewindable cord is a very nice feature since I dislike having to wrap cords by hand. The vacuum is powerful enough to rip the insulation on the wire, so you need to be careful about not running over the cord. I usually end up having to hold the cord in my other hand as a result.Every once and a while you may need to wash parts of the vacuum to get rid of the dust and lint that will stick to it.The vacuum is not very heavy and is not difficult to push. I would say it is average compared to most other vacuums for a weight comparison.Despite some of these issues, the cost is one fourth that of a Dyson and the functionality is good. So I gave it 5 stars since it will perform better than most vacuums. It could have some improvements, but I will not complain given it is inexpensive.
