Solid Unit for Playing RECORDS - no unneeded BS accessories to break down.
So far- I love it. I looked at all of the different brands of record players and decided the less bells and whistles, the more they could focus on presenting a good, solid, simple product. I don't need a cd player, clock, am/fm radio, cd burner, etc. Got those already. What I needed was a nice way to play my old records. So I bought this. I love the look of it- non-nonsense, nothing stupid or kitchy. It looks like a piece of professional audio equipment- nice, classic black. Mine worked great out of the box and is plenty loud enough for my studio, which is a 12 x 18 building with high ceilings. The sound is good. NOT CD quality- if that's what you're looking for, the stick with CDs or MP3s. If you are playing old vinyl, expects the pops and scratches and that "warm" quality. Not to mention, many of the vintage records I am playing are old jazz vinyls from the 50s and 60s, and most of them are Hi-Fi, not stereo. I'm having a great time digging out my parents' old records and rehearing them after several decades. This is a solid, no BS unit with great sound. I like that I can close the lid while it's playing- keeps curious cats from grabbing at the stylus. All in all I am very happy with this record player and glad I decided on this one after reading many, many reviews for just about every other record player on the market.

Great first record player
I'm going to preface this by saying I am college student, and all I was looking for an all in one system that plays records and has loud enough speakers to fill my room with sound. This record player does just that, and it looks great on my dresser. I love the sound, and it's more than loud enough to fill a room. It plays old vinyl just fine, but I notice some consistent skipping on new vinyl. This was easily remedied by taping a dime to the tone arm, but I wish I didn't have to do that. The auto return is a nice feature, but it only works about 30% of the time. This record player also has an AUX input in the back which works great, but when I tried plugging my phone into the USB port on the front it didn't work at all. Fortunately, I don't use it much for playing music off my phone, I just use it for vinyl and it does a great job at that.

Electrohome portable record player - a great value for the price
Packaging: 5 Triple packed. The player is suspended between two foam ends, in a close fitting commercial box such as it would be in at say a Best Buy if one bought it there, which is in an outer carton within which it probably made the trip in the container ship from China, and finally shipped from Amazon in another larger box with plenty of blocking. Initial impression: 5 Carefully assembled, outer cabinet covering well-matched in terms of seams and straightness of the vinyl covering, handle stitching is straight and consistent, handle, latch and Electrohome medallion over the USB port oriented well. Solidly made and fairly hefty from the wooden construction. Sound quality: 5 Capable of very high volume with not too much distortion. Speakers are small in order to fit within the confines of the case's depth, so not much bass response. But that's what the portables of yesteryear were like anyway. Operation: 5 Works perfectly for what it's designed to do. But a word of caution: The instructions state a record may be played with the cover closed, but I would advise against doing that. It's because the tone arm return mechanism first wants to lift the arm higher than is possible with the cover closed. So, if the cover is closed when a record is finished playing, the tone arm is going to be forced against the underside of the cover, and this will eventually (if it doesn't the first this happens) damage the return mechanism by stripping out gear teeth or whatever. Overall: Very happy with the purchase and quick delivery, and feel it's a very good value for the price.

Terrible purchase.
Works perfectly, except I still cannot quite figure out how to play my iPod or iPhone through the USB port. Otherwise, the sound is awesome, and it looks super cute. UPDATE 3/26/14: This record player was cute, for a minute. My records that NEVER skipped before began skipping and I realized the band underneath the turntable would consistently come off, so any time I wanted to play a record, I'd have to take extra time to fix it. THEN the fabric around the player started lifting, causing the skipping. I tried taping it down, gluing, and just holding it down with my finger. Nothing worked. Then the fabric on the inside of the lid started peeling off. My mistake for not researching this brand beforehand, because they sell this record player at Wal-mart. Cheap. It didn't even last for more than 4 months before I gave up and chucked it in my garage. I am extremely disappointed because I love listening to vinyl and now I'm getting what I pay for. I do not recommend this record player, but I do recommend you spend your hard earned money on something a little more expensive and do your research first.

Amazing sound, amazinly retro record player (and more!)
I was so excited to receive this portable Electrohome Classic Record player for my birthday (at my asking :) )! I also received a few records, then hit up some older relatives for records they wouldn't mind giving up, and now I have quite the collection... The record player is AMAZING!!! I find the entire process of watching an album go 'round very soothing, and stopping to flip sides or records keeps my day on track (as a stay-at-home mom). The sound quality is wonderful, and it is a breeze to use. I find I'm able to let my 8-year-old daughter use it without worry - simple! With limited space in my home, I love that I can put this record player away with ease. It looks very classy - both open AND as a mysterious black suitcase beside my couch! I highly recommend this Electrohome Archer Vinyl Record Player to anyone who wants that retro vibe with modern-day accompaniments (ability to hook up a phone/iPod to listen through the record player's speakers), and a USB port. I couldn't ask for more, and I wouldn't know what to ask for... this one is perfect!

I'm a beginner at vinyls and record players, and I purchased a used Electrohome Archer Turntable through ShopTronics. It came very well packaged, and good as new. The turntable works very well! I'm impressed at the easy-to-follow instructions, which came with the box in addition to the manual. Super helpful for a new user like me. Prepping the turntable for use was very simple. The only part that worried me a little was the securing of the transit screw. While doing so, the turntable and tone arm wobbled and looked as if it was going to fall off. The headphone input was a good bonus - this is located at the back beside the power input. The volume is quite impressive. I live on the 2nd floor of a 2 1/2 storey home, and at mid-volume, I can hear the music from this beast all the way down the basement. The quality is not the best. But for the price I paid for, this is lovely! The portability of it is wonderful. The body of the case does not look cheap. I do wish it can be battery-powered given that it is easily transportable, but I guess they will have to charge more for that feature.

Great record player, the sound is great even without buying external speakers. The beauty is that it comes with USB input which enables me to play my mp 3 music which is more current. the equipment is useful for playing old records and newer music on mp 3. And the best part is the affordable price. Thanks Electrohome.

Worst turntable I have ever heard in my entire life. This is the very first product I have ever returned to Amazon. I am a Prime member and have bought countless items from Amazon in the past. The built-in speakers sound pretty terrible, which was expected. The big surprise however is how absolutely abysmal it sounded when you plugged it into external speakers. It sounds as though you're playing a song on a Gen1 iPhone through a megaphone. There's barely any bass, it's ridiculously airy-sounding, there isn't anything even close to a full tone or sound whatsoever. I tried several different records with the same crappy result. I also tried connecting other devices like my phone to the same speakers using the same cord, and the difference was remarkable. I was getting a full sound with a range of tones when I was listening to the same song being played through aux output on my phone to my external speakers, but this overpriced piece garbage that pretends to be a turntable sounded like utter crap. I tried every variable to ensure that it was in fact this product that was causing this issue. I followed all instructions and exhausted all resources trying to solve this issue. I can't believe this product has any positive reviews at all. You don't need to be an audiophile to know how embarrassingly disgusting it sounds. I will never buy an Electrohome product again in my entire life.

I'm updating this review, as the one I had gotten previously was used. Brand new out of the box, this is the best briefcase styled record player on the market. Period. The Audio on this new on is so great, the volume goes much louder than the used one i'd received previously. The outside finish is beautiful! If you want to get into vinyl, this is the entry level record player for you. It's a low costing, high performing, cool looking player!

Such a wonderful record player. I was new to the record playing scene but even I was able to work this. The records I bought for it have all played wonderfully. The sound that emits from it is so nice. I love that it is in a handy carrying case The look is sleek and the sound is great
