Great case for video production!
I now have 3 Pelican cases and plan on buying even more in the future. I bought the Pelican 1500 Case at the same time as the 1650 and have owned the Pelican Air 1535 for about 4 months now. I run a small video production company, and use these cases for storing and transporting almost all of my equipment, from camera bodies and lenses to microphones, monitors, and even a slate. The 1650 is a very large case, and held a large amount of equipment for me. As far as "constructing" the inside of the case with the pick-n-pluck foam, I took some advice from others on the web and used toothpicks to mark out the sizes of equipment before doing any actually plucking and picking. One of the best decisions I've made with this case was ordering the Pelican 1659 Lid Organizer at the same time. I haven't installed lid organizers in the 1535 or 1500 yet, but after realizing how convenient it is to be able to throw my spare camera batteries, cords, and other miscellaneous pieces into the lid organizer (instead of a separate bag or backpack), it's something I plan on looking into. Anyone who has experience any Pelican case can speak for how stellar the build quality is. These cases are clearly built to last and I never worry about storing several thousand dollars' worth of equipment in mine, especially when they can also be locked up. These cases are incredibly sturdy and built to make transportation easier, and the 1650 is no exception. It has two sets of double wheels on the bottom edge of the case as well as an extending handle that allows you to roll the case with ease - a definite need for this case since it's far too big and heavy to lift and carry anywhere. This case is deep enough that it actually has 2 rows of pick-n-pluck foam instead of 1 row (which the 1535 and 1500 both have). I was able to take advantage of this depth with a few items, most notably the suction mount, slate, and rail system. I've attached a picture to my review in order to get a better reference for just how big this case is & how much it can hold, and I'll break down the equipment inside now for those curious: - Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera - Canon EOS Rebel T3i Digital SLR Camera Body - Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens - Rokinon CV85M-C 85mm t/1.5 Lens - Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera - Aputure 7-Inch Digital Video LCD Monitor - Matte Box -LP-E8 Battery Chargers (2) - Suction Cup Mount -1/4" Mount Stand Thing - Hot Shoe Stand (x2) - AA/AAA Plastic Battery Storage Case/Organizer/Holder - Clapboard with Color Sticks (9x11 inches) - 160 LED CN-160 Video Light (x2) - Opteka Follow Focus - Opteka 15mm Rod System I was able to fit a ton of stuff in the lid organizer as well, mostly extra batteries, a power strip, a sunshade for the monitor, pens/dry erase markers, gaffer's tape, cords, etc.

Perfectly Perfect Product
Well, this is my second Pelican case. I've owned the small (carry-on compliant) 1510 for over a year now and absolutely love it! Besides this 1650 being HUGE (I can fit my 1510 case inside with room left over), it still complies with all U.S. airlines check baggage size limits (by 2-inches!). However, I must say that this case is also pretty darn heavy just by itself at around 30 pounds (13.5 Kilos). So, keep this in mind because, even though physical size of the 1650 is fine for checked luggage, the WEIGHT requirements are around 50 pounds (22.5 Kilos). So, you only got less than 20 pounds (9 Kilos) before going over limit and getting charged extra! I personally have loaded my 1650 with over 40 pounds (18 Kilos) of camera and lighting gear. All I can say is that I'm soooo glad for all the heavy duty handles in order to move this amount of weight around. And yet, once on its wheels, it's stupid easy to roll around fully loaded! The scary thing is, I have no doubt this 1650 can hold even more weight. Which would simply make it a two-person job lifting something that heavy. So, with that said, how about I just copy/paste my review of the 1510 from last year? I am completely blown away with the quality and features. This world would be a much better place if everything was made to this standard. Although it's a little expensive (especially for the 1650 model), I feel I got well over 127.38% return from my investment and have ZERO regrets from finally being able to afford this size of Pelican case. I plan on this case being with me for the rest of my life. Pros: - Outstandingly durable; I would trust my life with this product (literally)! - Large amount of space, and I mean a lot! - Heavy duty handles and latches - Lockable with metal-reinforced padlock holes - EVERYTHING proof (wind, water, sand, dirt, snow, elephants, airport baggage handlers etc...) - Quad roller wheels are easy, durable, stable, and low profile - Collapsible handle for wheeling around - Lifetime warranty - Able to carry heavy loads Cons: - Wish logos (branding) were a little smaller and less noticeable. I ended up using some photography gaffers tape to cover them

Pelican 1650 case with Padded Dividers vs Pick n Pluck Foam
This is a robust, well made, large case. It came with the pick n pluck foam which I would not recommend for camera gear. It pick n plucks easily and the separations are too flimsy for repeatedly removing multiple components. Would probably be fine for a single instrument. I paid $219 with free shippping via Amazon Prime, and it arrived 2 days later. Pelicancases.com was more expensive, could not deliver or give me a ship date after 3 weeks of waiting, so I cancelled the order. I did order part 1655, the padded divider set from them by talking directly to customer service, and it arrived 3 days later. The dividers work great with one exception. The picture of the dividers online and in pkg insert shows 2 dividers supposedly running lengthwise. What I received was 3 large dividers running widthwise, and 16 smaller dividers for configuring individual cells if needed. I used the (non'pick and pluck) foam bottom and edge from the P n P foam set to bring all gear up to the level of the case top so it would be held in place by the lid. I was able to fit a fieldscope, medium and super telephotos, large prime, super wide angle zoom, 3 cameras, speedlight, eyepiece loupe and adapter for the fieldscope, with room for more. Divider set also included egg crate foam that fits the case for customizing the sections. I still have 11 unused small dividers for use in other configurations. Would highly recommend this!

Strong like bull
I swear by Pelican cases to keep my stuff safe and conveniently portable. I use them for photography gear, and I've found that it's much easier to wheel in three big cases full of stuff than it is to make multiple trips for small armloads of milk creates, cardboard boxes, and travel bags. I can shove the cases into any space they'll fit in my car and not worry about what's on top of what. This case features enough room for six studio light heads plus cables and accessories. The foam comes in two layers, so you can make each compartment full or half depth. I tried my best to fit the contours of the items I'm holding, and then carve out two big full-depth pockets to hold power cords and the like. The wheels are big enough that it rolls easily over most surfaces without wobbling back and forth too much. I'm sure it also cuts down on wear and tear over time. It's a really nice case, and showing up for gigs with professional cases not only helps me get started quickly, but I gotta say, looks nice to the client.

True to specs. Pelican=Quality
After owning the Pelican 1700 rifle case, I was very confident purchasing another Pelican. The case was shipped promptly and was exactly what i expected.....yes it comes with foam. I think it is important for people to really pay attention to noted measurements/weight on these type items. I always check the Amazon description as well as the manufacturerers specs. Sometimes they are different by accident, sometimes they are legitimately different. I found the specs to be true. You can't knock a product for not being what you wanted if the specs are correct. That's your mistake, not theirs. As people have stated, this case is rather large and heavy. If you do research on the item, you already realize that when making the purchase. Even then, when it arrived, it was larger than i had envisioned....which was my own mistake as I didn't fully conceptualize those specs until i had it in person. For me, that was a good suprise. (I really love how Maxpedition's website has pics of their items on mannequins. You can really get a visual as to size when they do that.) As someone else mentioned, the side handle is the size shown in the photo. Evidently Pelican made this handle a bit smaller than it once was, but Amazon's picture is true to size. Again, this is fine for me as I don't have any intention of 2-hand carrying it from the side handle. For me, that's when the extension handle comes out and i roll it. Pelican makes a quality product, and you will pay for that quality. If you have done your research and need something this size, you will surely be happy with this item.

Great for cruises if you want to bring back a case of Bacardi!
I bought this case to use as luggage and yes it is over kill I was tired of standard luggage breaking after 1 to 2 uses. To be fair I over pack the luggage and I will explain why I went with the Pelican 1650 case. I bought this to take on a cruise because when we go on a cruise we normally bring back a case of Bacardi because it is so cheap. I can tell you that the Pelican 1650 (with foam removed) will fit a full case of Bacardi 1 liter bottles in the box. If could not be any easier than that I was so happy. Before I would have to wrap each bottle with clothes in may old luggage and then after a few blocks of walking the old luggage wheels would start to fail. Now this thing is heavy at around 38 lbs empty a case of Bacardi and my stuff I was pushing 100 lbs with this. Not something you would want to go on an airline with but a cruise it was perfect. Because it has 4 wheels and they are solid it rolled with ease and there was no wear at all when done. I wish I had done this sooner. Now the other down side to this besides the weight is that being rigid it does not store as easily but it can go anywhere and you do not have to worry about it. This case is like a tank and worked perfectly for my needs and I would buy it again in a heartbeat after this last use. One other negative is on a cruise it is a little big for the cabins on the ship but you can fit it into the small lockers in the room and it does that up lots of the room but manageable.

the material does become somewhat brittle and easily broken. A couple of the clips snapped by ...
I am a building contractor by trade and as such, many of my tools receive heavy use and sometimes abuse! This case has served me very well for 4 years now. I bought this as a tool case that would reside in the bed of my truck, which is where it has lived for those 4 years. Blazing heat to sub-zero winter days and everything in between - this case has been out in it all. Other materials and tools get thrown on top of it and slid in next to it. Of the original lid locking clips only two remain completely intact, the others have all been broken off. On the coldest of days, the material does become somewhat brittle and easily broken. A couple of the clips snapped by just trying to open them with hand pressure after they had been frozen shut with ice. BUT - never have any of the tools inside gotten wet, even with only one clip securely in place this box will stay dry in a rain or snow storm. All in all solid product and worth the price - I doubt you can abuse it anymore than I have!

Perfect for Photography
I've been wanting a Pelican case for years...when they finally went on sale as the Daily Deal, I snatched one. I love Pelican cases for a number of reasons: They're strong, easy to open but secure, and the pick 'n pluck foam is unmatched. I spent the better part of a day cutting out the compartments for various pieces of camera equipment but it turned out awesome! With the pick 'n pluck foam (and I think some of the cases are like this), I wish the pieces were cube shaped rather than going half the depth of the case. I can see where it would be challenging to have to deal with all the little cubes, but maybe if half of the foam inside was long and the other half was cube, it would work well. In all, it wasn't a huge issue and it's easy enough to take a sharp knife and cut the length to whatever you need. Here are a few tips on how I handled the foam. I used paperclips to mark corners because I didn't have toothpicks...I think toothpicks would work much better. Once I marked the corners, I used an extremely dull knife to cut down the depth of each square. You don't want to use a sharp knife because you want it to move along the perforation, not create a fresh cut. Then I bunched up the top (sort of in a fist) and lightly wiggled it around to make sure it was free before pulling the chunk out. You don't want to pull out extra foam unintentionally. This did happen to me on a couple of corners, and I just glued them back on with a thin coat of Elmer's glue and enough pressure to maintain contact with the rest of the foam.

EXCELENTE!
