Q: Is this fan sturdy enough/ heavy enough to withstand pets messing with it? I have a 17 lb cat that likes to rub against things and knock them over....

Hmmm, good question! I have a 16 lb kitty that likes to do the same but he's not allowed in the bedroom where we have this fan, so I did a little stability test of my own just now. Although it has a pretty large base, the base isn't weighted and the fan does wobble substantially when I pushed against it so I'm thinking if you have an overly enthusiastic kitty that likes to push up and rub against things (ours kinda rams himself against anything he rubs on more than brushing lightly against things), the weight of a 17 lb cat might would possibly knock this thing over. I'd suggest one of the Lasko Fans that has the faux wood trim - I've seen them in person at the store and they seem to be a bit more stable than this fan.

Q: Is the height adjustable?

The fan is not height adjustable.

Q: does this have to be used with an A/C to cool a room? Good for high humidity areas?

It's only a fan, like any other fan. High humidity in the room will make any fan less effective by decreasing evaporation of the sweat.

Q: What's the difference other than price between this one and the Lasko Tower #2511?

It think the 2511 does not have an ionizer like the 2505. Besides that, they are the same.
