How do you know when the battery is about to die so it doesn't die in the middle of the night and I don't lose my job?

Definitely get rechargables, although they seem to die faster. I learned my litium ion batteries last 30 days, so I just replace them every 3 weeks. Because I will sleep right through work

So if I hid this in my kid's drawer, will she hear it?

My dad had one of these when I was a teenager and I could hear it from the end of our driveway about 100 yards away from the house... So yeah you could say it's loud... Lol

How do you set the time that you want it to go off? I need to know before buying this for my son with developmental disabilities.

Switch the switch on the side to "timer" and press hour and minute while holding down the white key to set the alarm time. Previous to that, set the switch to "clock" to set the current time.
