Be warned, a simple, fixable mistake
It's A nice lock box and is very sturdy. I was very happy with it until one day it wouldn't open. I knew the code but it still wouldn't open. Long story short: when you first get the box there is a simple code to open it, inside there is a small lever on the lock mechanism. You slide the lever over and roll a code you want, and flip the lever back. What happened to me was an item inside bumped the lever and reset the code. I was ready to cut it open when my wife was tinkering with it and it opened. There is now a piece of tape over the lever.

Great little mechanical safe
Everyone needs to decide for themselves what their needs and preferences are. There are various small gun safes available: biometric (e.g. fingerprint scanner), electronic (e.g. finger buttons to punch in a series of numbers or a pattern), traditional keyed (flat-shaped key), round keyed (round-shaped key), padlock (room to mount a padlock), or a mechanical combination lock like this one (using 3-5 rotating tumblers). If you've decided on a mechanical (as oppose to electronic) safe, this one is excellent. For the price, this safe is a no-brainer. It costs about the same as a box of quality ammo, and provides decent security against unauthorized access. However, a word of caution: This particular model wouldn't be ideal for a shared common area with adults, or in a location where an older child could access it. With enough time on their hands, a curious teen or thief could quite easily start at 000 and roll through the numbers to 999 testing each until they found the combination. While that might sound silly, it would only take a few hours total. For me, I decided this safe was the best for my needs. It's quiet and doesn't feature beeping buttons, it's mechanical so batteries won't fail me, it fits both my semi-auto and a snub-nosed revolver for the wife, and the 3-digit combination is easy to remember. The only complaint I have about this safe is the way they shrouded (or failed to shroud) the locking mechanism. They just cut a rectangular space in the foam and smooshed it down. I would have preferred that the locking mechanism actually be shielded by a piece of shaped sheet metal. It's hard to describe in words, but it looks like the safe could-- over time-- have locking problems if that foam ever creeped into the area where the lock is located and gummed up the mechanism. I'll keep an eye on it, but I'm keeping the safe. I like it.

Beefiest inexpensive lockable case I've ever owned
Beefiest inexpensive lockable case I've ever owned. I have owned and given as gifts many of three different brands of inexpensive lockable cases: Snap-on, Bulldog and SnapSafe, and hands down the SnapSafe is the beefiest/most tough of the three. The first thing that you notice is the weight. It's made out of 16 gauge steel. Second thing is it's gunmetal grey instead of black (which some might consider a drawback). The cable is thick and almost 4 feet long and instead of a lazy look on the end secured inside the box it has a metal stop bracket which looks swank. And, the combo knob is METAL, not plastic. Granted, this ain't gonna stop a determined pilferer or enforcer, but it's gonna slow them down. Oh, and it comes with two pieces of foam on each of the inside sides so you can keep both in for thinner items or remove one layer for thicker or remove both for magnets/magnet hooks as desired. I am THOROUGHLY impressed and plan to buy again--especially if it stays in the $20s price range. WOW.

Just What I Needed
This is a really nice and inexpensive security box for your hand gun or other small valuables. It is NOT the ultimate security device. It is simply an effective way to deter thieves and small children from spending an inordinate amount of time trying to open the box. It does include a security cable with a looped end so you can lock it to a secure frame in a vehicle or your home. It has a three digit lock that is simple to program. I expected a little higher quality lock as the wheels do not click firmly into place when entering the combination. However, since I do not intend to lock it on my bedside nightstand (there are no small children in the house), I'm not concerned about fumbling the combination should I have to access my weapon in the middle of the night. The bottom line is that this lockbox fulfills its duties as I expected it to. If you want higher end security, then be prepared to fork over $200 minimum for a Simplex style lock and a 20+ pound box. Otherwise, this is a great option and a terrific price.

Works exactly as described.
Got this to lock up the pistol in the car for when the signs say I can't carry. Although criminals tend to ignore the signs so....The XL safe fits my holstered Glock 19, and a Snag Mag I carry in my offhand pocket. (Picture below.) I had to take out one layer of foam from the top in order to close the safe. A little pressure on top while turning the lock knob ensures a snug fit. No worries about scratches though, there are two more layers. The safe isn't indestructible, but will protect against a smash and grab as well as keep the firearm out of the kiddos' reach. As another reviewer stated, a teenager with enough spare time can defeat the lock by spinning through the combinations. So heads up.

Good product that serves it's purpose. One issue, read detail.
This is a good product, and serves it's purpose. The only negative is is I was setting it up I placed two M&P shield 9mm's in the box without removing the second piece of foam, and when I try to open it the lock was coming in contact with the foam and would not turn to open. This was pretty frustrating as I had two brand new pistols locked in the safe and could not open it. When I remove the second piece of foam it fit find an open and closed with no issues, but just be aware of this especially if you are using this for home defense. I was able to fit two handguns in the safe but there was no additional room for magazines or additional supplies, which wasn't really a concern for me as I keep those separate anyways.

Has a mind of its own!
Bought it, Got it, Opened it, lost my stuff in it forever! This thing is basically designed so that the owner puts his code in and the lock box then decides what code it wants and disregards the owners code forever. resulting in the owner having to use a welding gun to melt the metal open to recover his items!

Will work for me.
Just tried the lock box. Looks like it is well built. The nob for opening sticks up and looks like it could get broken if handled roughly or something was set on it. The opening nob and lock aren’t as good quality as the lock box. It will work for me.

A bit small/width for trigger locks
Too small for any handgun with a decent trigger lock. Must go cable or other
