Includes 4 bonus tracks. Review: What a surprise and delight! - If you're a Sting fan - well, you probably already have this, and nothing I say hear will be new or surprising. He's a bit of a savant, a fantastic musical talent, and always driven to make things bigger and better. It may be sometimes an obsessive perfectionism. But it seldom disappoints. I have my run of Sting albums - starting with Summoner's Tales (one of my top 20 albums of all time - not a single bad track) and dwindling around Sacred Love (with a side-step to his medieval-folk foray with Songs From the Labyrinth), and just didn't bother to look much beyond. My wife and I went to see him on his My Songs tour in 2023 in Seattle though, and wow - what a show! (And one week before also seeing Peter Gabriel at the same venue on his i/o tour - equally brilliant - but I digress...) Anyway, I later discovered this album on Spotify and was really pleasantly surprised at his retooling of some great solo and Police classics. Some of them, imho, didn't need reimagining as they're already brilliant - but whatever, he did it. And they're amazing. There's a couple I still prefer the original album versions, but only out of nostalgia I would guess. This is a great album - if you're new to him, get it. If you're a life long fan (and somehow don't already have it), get it! Like, seriously, what are you even waiting for? Stop reading this and order it now! You won't be sorry. Review: New versions of Sting/Police classics - I can't really tell much difference between the first two songs, "Brand New Day" and "Desert Rose" and their originals with the exception of some earlier singing in "Desert Rose". Stevie Wonder plays the harmonica on "Brand New Day". The third song, "Set Them Free", is different than the original and I think it's actually a bit better. The keyboard/synth is more prominent on this version and this version is more danceable. Song four, "Every Breath You Take", has a heavier, more thudding drum sound than the Police original. "Demolition Man" is a jam! The guitar is more prominent at the front of this version. This version of "Fields Of Gold" is nice but I don't think it can compare with the prettiness of the original. I don't think it would be possible for Sting to hit the high notes he hits in "So Lonely" from 40 years ago, so this version is different. And yet, listen to him smoothly hold the long note at the end of "Message In A Bottle". This version of "Message" has more of a live feel to it. The CD ends with five live songs from a solo Paris performance: "Roxanne", "Synchronicity II" (which I think tends to be one of the Police's/Sting's best live songs), "Next To You", "Spirits In The Material World" and "Fragile". In general, I would say this album features Sting rockin' a bit harder, and singing in a bit of a deeper voice which seems inevitable as a singer ages. But he's still a great singer! Some of the versions of these songs are a bit more stripped down from their originals with less of an emphasis on finesse. I've seen some reviews of this album on here that are a bit negative. But Sting is pretty straightforward in saying that he was just reworking/updating the songs a bit. Be happy that you have some new versions of Police/Sting classics, some live, to listen to. I'm guessing this CD will be a kinda basic set list for his upcoming 2020 Las Vegas residency entitled "My Songs".

New versions of Sting/Police classics

This does NOT have the Live version of Stevie Wonder singing "Fragile"
It's a great album. I was more than a little disappointed when I discovered the live version was not the Stevie Wonder/Sting collaboration of the poignant song "Fragile".

It's Sting, What Else is there to say?
Like the title says, it's Sting. You either like his music, or you don't. I was listening to a Sting cd of duets. I highly recommend that one, also, BTW. His rendition of "Field of Barley" has a strange wildness about it. Listen to Eve Cassidy's version and Sting's and you'll seee what I mean. Two different barley fields! Anyway, if you like Sting, then buy this cd. You won't be disapointed.

If I Ever Lose My Faith In Sting, There'll Be No Songs Left For Me To Sing
In 2018, Paul Simon released the album "In The Blue Light." He recorded new versions of his lesser known songs with jazzier arrangements, in a more intimate setting. He even changed some lyrics, which some listeners might object to. Since "Sting: My Songs" includes re-recordings of the best known songs of the Police and Sting, I wasn't sure what to expect. One listen revealed that Sting remained mostly faithful to the original arrangements of his songs. I feel he made the right choice in doing so. On "Can't Stand Losing You" and "So Lonely," Sting proved that he can still rock out like he did during his younger days with the Police. His heartfelt vocals on the ballads "Every Breath You Take" and "Shape Of My Heart" were very moving. My only minor complaint is that the deluxe version includes a studio and live version of "Fragile." Instead, it could have included a live version of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" or "Fortress Around Your Heart." The consistent quality of all of Sting's songs on this release is impressive. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this album many times, and highly recommend it.
