Sonia Delaunay: A Life of Color

Clever story about a great artist!
I love reading about my favorite artists to children. I am always so happy to discover books written for young people about female artists or those who aren't recognizable to the masses like Van Gogh and Picasso. This book is clever and beautifully illustrated using Sonia's own work as the through-line for the story. It also identifies the works in the back, along with a short biography of her. This book is published by New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). My kids loved reading it and I will cherish having it in my classroom.

Best Children's Art Book in Years!
I was doing a report on Sonia Delaunay and ordered this book thinking "Oh! What fun"This is the best and most concise telling of her life I had seen. better than Wikipedia or other sources.Just to know her and her love of color and her many adventures is fantastic. To have it told in such a beautiful and fanciful way was a perfect end to all of my research.Little children will love it and older children, reading it to siblings or cousins may be inspired by her and her colorful life.

Great
Better for 1st and 2nd grade. Love the color.

Beautiful illustrations
Good bio of Sonia Delaunay but a little confusing because of the fantasy flight aspect for younger children, I think. Liked the inclusion of her son as a main character. Illustrations are stunning.

Art Teacher Essential
Manes, Cara Sonia Delaunay: A Life of Color, 2017 pages. NON-FICTION. MOMA, 2017. $20.This is the story of a young boy who discovers a colorful quilt in his drawer. When his mother, artist Sonia Delaunay-Terk comes in, she tells him how the colors can take them on a journey through sight and sound. Readers discover along with the son, the famous pieces of the artist and how they represent sound and movement through color.I think our art teacher would adore this book! I think student readers on their own would be a bit confused but enjoy the imaginary journey. I like that this book is about an female artist from the early 1900s. I probably wouldn’t seek this out for my library but it couldn’t hurt –especially if your school has a big art program.EL(K-3) -OPTIONAL. Stephanie, Elementary School Librarian & Author

Beautiful children's book for grown ups
This is a beautifully produced and very reasonably priced hardcover book - I would say for 7/8 years upwards who are interested in art and/or colour. It's a magical tale but also a very brief introduction to Sonia Delaunay and her ideas about colour and art.

Disappointed
I expected a book on the life and work of Sonia Delauney not a children's book.
