Halcyon

Ellie Goulding has always been one of my favorite artists. It's a reissue of her original album HALCYON (the album possesing her timeless hit ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN) .This album exclusively marks a strange experimental transition from naive countrygirl Ellie of Bright Lights exploring country life & human behavior to a dark,melancholic Ellie talking about her painful memories of past. Her haunting vocals in tracks like Don't Say a Word,My Blood,Dead in the Water proves her benchmark as a vocalist in fact Drake sampled her vocals of this album in his song. Also her songwriting skills are just mind blowing especially in My Blood she is probably using Biblical philosophy. Also the trademark feature of Ellie's Folktronica (Folk+Electronic) style seems to be present everywhere in the album like in Only You,Halcyon except those added EDM tracks like Burn,I Need Your Love. In one word, Halcyon Days & Brightest Blue are the two best albums of her career, A MUST LISTEN.Favorite tracks: My Blood,Under Control,Don't Say a Word,Under Contrrol,Joy,Hearts Without Chains.

I have listened to Ellie Goulding's album "Lights" which came out in 2010 and I really liked it. She has an amazing voice and that's the reason why I bought this album because I knew I would not be disappointed. My favorite tracks are "My Blood", "Only You", "Lights", "Hanging On", "Burn", "I Need Your Love" & "Figure 8". The rest of the tracks are also good. There are 22 tracks in this album and it was really worth the price...!

Halcyon Days is a must buy and I absolutely love Ellie ever since her Lights album. Her voice is unique, her songs are rather whimsical and if youve seen her interviews shes an absolute delight!! Although Halcyon Days is not the 2 CD package and a couple of songs such as Dead In The Water and Ritual arent there, Halcyon Days is as unique as it is captivating. Anything Could Happen, My Blood and Figure 8 are the 'MUST HEAR' sorts and overall the album deserves 4 gold stars! Love you Ellie xx

Ellie Goulding is very underrated as an artist, she is without doubt one of the best if not the best contemporary pop artist around at the moment. Her songs are well constructed and deal with a number of unique themes under pinned with fantastic music and her very distinctive singing style. While the likes of Taylor Swift seem to produce bland formulaic corporate pop music, Ellie’s music has real creativity and quality. She is one of the few current artist that I actually want in my music collection, most of them I forget after a couple of listens.

I bought this album as the ratings for the first one were so good and I loved the track called explosions which has been the backing track to and advert for dramas on TV. It's a great album I think my 3 favourites are 'anything can happen', 'explosions and the 'I know you care' lovely. The reason for the 4 stars is the track where a guest singer - I think it might be Hanging On - (Feat. Tinie Tempah)? not sure as I've only had time to listen a couple of times - I felt spoilt the mood of the album as the swearing on it seems a bit aggressive and at odds with the other tracks, maybe it's just me but don't think so as I'm not adverse to a bit of swearing in context. It wouldn't put me off Ellie Goulding at all but this track won't be going on my ipod.

I have liked Ellie Goulding's songs on the radio and took a chance and brought this CD ...so many times i have liked artists "Hit songs" but have never liked their Albums much !...Not so in this case i Love this CD ! it has hardly come out of my CD player since i first heard it ...every song is pure gold for different reasons !.Ellie has a remarkable voice used to good effect on this CD. So if you have enjoyed her Hit songs then you must buy this CD its BRILLIANT !!!

After Bright Lights, and hearing Anything Could Happen released as a single for this album, I must say I was completely uncertain as to how this album would sound. Ellie's style has changed beyond belief; this album is darker, deeper, and more mature than her debut. And Skrillex appears to have had an influence as well. Whilst some tracks are disappointing, like Anything Could Happen,or outright bad, like I Need Your Love, the rest are up there with her best. Figure 8 shows what Ellie can do with a strong bassline, whereas Joy, Explosions and I Know You Care are back to basics; wonderfully sung ballads with little more than Ellie and a piano. Dead in the Water certainly deserves special mention. Given her usually cheery or romantic tone, this song displays a deep sadness that demonstrates the sheer range this artist is capable of. If you are expecting the same as Lights, you will be dissapointed. However, if Ellie continues in this vein in the future, I most certainly will not be.

WHo would have thought Ellie could top her debut album from a couple of years ago? Well, she has. This album has some great songs and fantastic vocals from Ellie, if not slightlyover produced in placed. I would have liked a few stripped back/ acoustic tracks on there, but hey ho we are in 2013 so lets have a Calvin Harris dance track instead!!! Its a bit of a grower, but definetely worth investing if its a fvier or less as it was when i bought it!
