This unit has worked like a CHAMP for the 2.5yrs I've had it!
This unit has worked like a CHAMP for the 2.5yrs I've had it! I paired it with a CMaster antenna & 11ft screen - I get about 12 OTA channels. PLENTY for me. Mostly I use this to watch football in the Fall & Big Bang reruns to unwind if it's been a tough day

Good tuner for the money - make sure you use optical connection for the audio to get best sound
Works well for the price for receiving over the air digital HD TV channels and any unscrambled QAM digital channels on the cable system. Does not have a built in analog tuner so it won't receive any analog channels still present on your cable system, but it's great as a "digital only" tuner. The picture is excellent using the HDMI port. Regarding its audio output, if your want to listen to Dolby Digital 5.1 audio with this tuner, you'll need to make sure you use the optical cable connection for the audio part of the signal and set the SDPIF setting in the setup menu to AC3. If you use the HDMI path for both the audio and video it only provides 2 channel PCM audio. This is not an unusual drawback in that many cable TV company provided set top boxes of various brands also only provide the 5.1 audio only via the optical or coaxial digital connection (not the HDMI). Overall, I really like this tuner and the only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 stars is that the manual that came with it does not provide the information I have just provided to you about the audio.

Short Life Span!
The Channel Master was the answer that solved my need for a digital tuner to connect to my DVR. The device worked extermely well for 11 months. The device quit on the 12th month. I would advise against purchasing this unit if it is still being made. I have replaced it with a 'Homeworks" tuner. The Homeworks unit functions better than the Channel Master - although I suspect that both are from the same manufacturer. The picture viewed as a direct input to my LCD television is outstanding. Since I dropped the Dish network, (too expensive for what you receive) I use a Roku device to stream the internet and I have an antenna located in the attic. The Homeworks unit receives all local signals and several more than the Channel Master could identify.Update: 3-12-15. The HomeWorks Digital unit has failed after only 9 months. So disappointing! Why does a unit that sits undisturbed and was working fine suddenly fail? I suppose because it was poorly made to begin with. Please avoid the Homeworks Digital TV Tuner. My 3 star rating is far too high.

Works Fine, if you don't use HDMI
Get great picture quality via HDMI, but the audio cuts out on all OTA TV channels. Connected via roof mounted AntennaCraft HDX1000, and routed through Pioneer VSX-1022 for both audio and video. Works great when connected to receiver with SVGA and optical audio cable, but that's not what I bought it for. Swapped HDMI cables, tried different HDMI ports, same result. Apple TV works great with all HDMI cables/ports. 3 other TVs connected to same antenna, with no issues at all.ChannelMaster tech support = crap. Called during normal business hours, and was first in the queue. On hold for 10 mins, then connected to voicemail to leave a message. Rinse, repeat 3 times. Tried home sales, again during normal business hours. Rinse, repeat. Finally called business sales, found a gentlemen that said all his Techs were busy, but he'd try to help. Long story short(er), supposed to send the box back for diagnostics, but not going to receive a replacement in the meantime. Doesn't do much good in the living room to watch TV w/o a tuner. There might be better products out there, but I'm not sure. Disappointed in the lack of tech support and the performance of the product for what I'm paying for. Yes, it works, but not as I expected it to. Expect a follow up as the saga continues.

Limited features
QAM cable channels only, no repeat recording, Limited usability. They have a long way to go before this is a marketable DVR. Returned

works as expected
Good product, easy to setup. Even with a cheap antenna the combination produced a suprisingly high quality picture. I think you can go another direction and order products that stream data to your tv via a high speed connection but I opted for this old school approach and it works fine. No soup for you Time Warner!

Works Good, Two Annoyances
In general this is a pretty good tuner. Two annoying features though: Channels cannot be edited or deleted and no method for clearing or setting the remote buttons back to factory default. Buttons on the remote are individually programmable by a "learning" mode for emulating functions on other remotes (e.g. can set the power, volume buttons to control the TV). Once a button is programmed there is no method of resetting it to factory settings (according to the tech support person I had a conversation with). I wanted to program the volume buttons to control the TV and made the mistake of programming the Channel-up/down buttons instead. After that, there was no way to perform channel up/down from the remote. Luckily I had purchased two tuners and was able to program the remote buttons to that of my second unit.

Needs work.
Does it get channels from your cable? Yes. Are the channel numbers different? Yes. Do several copies of the same channel show up? Yes. Does it take a second or two to change to the next channel? Yes. Does it miss some channels that you used to have access to? Yes. I got this box because I needed something to convert from the coax cable coming out of my wall to an HDMI cable that snakes through my walls to my wall-mounted TV. When we dropped regular cable to go to "network" cable, we dropped their (TWC) box and the $6 monthly charge.
