Corny but loveable jokes and anecdotes!
I remeber reading this book as a teeneager and was happily surprised to have found it online. It was a no brainer to purchase it!

Uggh! What a lousy book!
This book is so unfunny, so corny, so stupid.I am sorry for not mustering up more intelligent words but this book doesn't deserve an intelligent review. I am only writing this to warn others not to waste their money. The jokes are so not funny. I mean, not funny at all! Sometimes you can't even tell what the punch line is. And lest you say that it is a cultural thing and I am missing the nuances of Jewish humor, I will just mention that I am fluent in Yiddish and grew up around Jewish humor my whole life. One more thing... it is a CRIME to call this an encyclopedia. There is nothing encyclopedic about it. It's not organized as a reference book. It's ridiculous to call this an encyclopedia. Whatever... I am wasting too much time on this review already. Don't buy!!!

when I am at my parents house in my room I'll pick it up off my shelf and have a good laugh. I always wanted to learn Yiddish
A long time before my grandfather passed away, he gave me this book. It's always been a very prized possession of mine as a young adult, and even now, when I am at my parents house in my room I'll pick it up off my shelf and have a good laugh. I always wanted to learn Yiddish, but I've never gotten around to it. This book doesn't penalize me, and has a glossary of terms and definitions in back.A few weeks ago I looked on Amazon to see if this had been made into an ebook, so I could carry this with me wherever I go, as the original copy my Grandfather gave me is way too valuable to bring anywhere. I was disappointed that it was not. I'm not sure of the version I have, my grandfather (Zadie) couldn't remember where he got it, but it helps me remember him, and I discover new jokes every time I crack it open. Most of the jokes are not designed for a modern audience, and they can be very long and take a while to get through, but they are usually very funny. If you grew up in a Jewish household, or had grandparents who were very religious, or just want to get a glimpse of sophisticated Jewish jokes (some even joking about stereotypical Jews, but in a much better way than the dumb highschool oven and gas jokes) you should pick this up. Much of the material is about WWII, but written in a way that can be told for generations. It's cheap enough and will always give a good laugh.I may be biased, but I will always remember this book and these jokes fondly, and hopefully pass it down to my children or grandchildren!
