Jorgensen Pet Piller

This Jorgensen pill shooter made giving my senior cat her Azodyl capsule go much faster and easier today! It arrived in the mailbox and I chose to clean it with alcohol before using it. I had my reservations but it pleasantly surprised me! I wouldn’t force the capsule too hard into the opening for fear of tearing it or spreading the precut slits further apart and making it harder to use in the future. I’ll try to give an update a week from now and maybe even a month so we can see if it can still grab a hold of the small capsule. I used coconut oil on the entire capsule and the tip end to assure it would go down quickly. If you have someone to help hold the cat, I would recommend that. I do wish the pen/syringe part was not so long. It makes it challenging to do by yourself. I’ll have to be careful to not shove it too far down her throat when trying to administer! I was thrilled to see I got it centered and pushed the pump fairly easily (except for length of syringe being an issue) and was surprised when I saw the tip was empty, that the capsule had gone down! I closed my cat’s mouth and stroked her throat as usual and she must’ve already swallowed it. I always make sure I have her food ready to put on the floor as soon as I realize she’s swallowed it so her very liquified food (I add several Tablespoonfuls UNSALTED broth to her renal support food) is ready to help her swallow capsule even more. Give this a try! Before this it was much more of a struggle. And in case you didn’t ask or research, no you can’t open and sprinkle the Azodyl on the cat’s food. Something about the way it needs to go further into the digestive tract before being exposed to the elements in order to work. Good luck!

Quick takeaway: I can't imagine a situation where this would actually work. My cat takes half of a tiny pill on a regular basis. I bought this to replace a piller that I had purchased from our old vet's office, before we moved. That piller was never perfect, but I could usually get it to work by wrapping the pill half in a piece of pill pocket and stuffing it into the opening (which was too big to hold the pill half alone). Eventually it wore out, though. Looking for a new piller, I thought this one might actually be better than our old one because of the small opening. Finally, I thought, I can just put the pill half in without adding anything. Well, when I opened the package, I immediately had concerns. The plunger had sticky yellowish goo on it (probably from the manufacturing process), and the rubbery tip had excess material hanging off it. Nevertheless, I washed the whole thing and gave it a try. As of this writing, this product has worked on 0/4 attempts. The tiny pill half barely fits in the opening, and the plunger sticks so much when I try to give the pill that it makes a loud POP when I finally push it through. Even worse, though, is that the pill doesn't "shoot" out. It just sort of sticks to the rubbery tip and slowly falls off. I tried it once with the pill pocket trick, but then it was even worse. This product is awful. I don't know how it would work for anyone.

These pillers are great to avoid having to shove my fingers into my cats' mouths to get them to swallow pills. They do tend to have varying lift spans (between 1 to 6 months) depending on how much your cat bites the tip and how much the silicon splits (over time). I have found that in 100% of the pillers the silicon will eventually start to tear and it reall vary on the specific unit. You can continuing using the piller after the silicon tears, but it can lead to a more common feeling of frustration with the entire process and it can cause the pills to fail to leave the piller upon depression of the plunger (this can happen in a non-torn piller, but it is significantly less likely to happen).

Not the best pill shooter I've ever used. The plunger was very stiff except when pulling it out then it would come out too far. I could not get the pill positioned just right so it would easily shoot into my cat (to be fair, it was a small pill). The slit in the end was not deep enough to hold the rather large diabetes pill I give my cat but seemed to work after I made the slits deeper.

What can I say? worked great and it was cheap.

I'd previously purchased one like this, thought I'd be getting the same item/ quality but no. Rubbery tip has an end that closes down to a little hole that causes problems with larger pills. the top is kind of a sticky rubber so pushing the pill out is harder plus it barely places the pill in the mouth. My previous purchase would pop the pill, gently shooting it back into the throat so there was no way the cat could grab it with the rough tongue and whet it. One try and spit out and the pill is basically a gooey powder you can't load and useless. Not only is the item a waste of my money (I'd bought 3 thinking it would be the same product) but has wasted medicine and caused issues with having to explain why I need more plus the expense of purchasing more when I shouldn't have to do so.

When you need a pet piller, you usually need one right then—as was the case when I found myself bringing home my kitty from urgent care. With none for cats available at any of local pet stores or even the farm stores, I ordered this one in from Amazon. Understand I have given many pills to many cats over the years as we’ve rescued furbabies delivered by the cat distribution system. We had high quality pet pillers for years, but those are all back home on the east coast, not out here at the base with me. And this one is in no way up to the job—the blue tip to hold the pill was incredibly stiff, and barely cut open. It would be hard to use with either small pills (likely to get caught), or large pills—nearly impossible to get it to hold. And the plunger was very hard to use—it had stiff ribs at the base that made it very hard to pull backwards to load, and just hard to push in to dispense, sticking in place repeatedly. Giving my current kitty in need of care her meds is a bit analogous to wrestling an angry alligator, so I certainly don’t need to be fighting the pill popper just to get it to load and dispense the pill on cue. Returning and looking for a better version.

This is for a DOG, TOO BIG for a cat

I have a 3Kg cat that is an alligator to pill. She is CKD and needs her pepcid EOD. Made the task way easier,

It's a simple design - two pieces of plastic: a pen sized plastic tube with a slotted soft rubber/plastic tip and a slightly longer plastic insert piece/plunger. The plunger piece is inserted up to a "stop". When the plunger is fully depressed, the pill in the soft tip is "popped" out the end and down the back of the pet's throat. These two new ones have no "popping" effect and often the pill jams down the side of the plunger and within the outer tube. There's either a problem with the material or the sizing/dimensions of the plunger and tube. Useless..

Fine for smaller pills but cannot handle anything very large.
