Drawing the Female Nude

Unlike Loomis, whose illustrations are probably from the 1950's, Civardi brings you into the 21st Century with with modern, realistic, excellent illustrations in every one of his books. What I like best is that he shows you techniques, poses, of heads, bodies, anatomy,clothing (and how do shade folds of clothing, etc., without, to me, wordy discriptions and you just get it!His books are chock full of illustrations. You can't go wrong buying any one of his books, though I don't feel they are for beginners.

Good Drawing book

The front and end chapters of this book describe different drawing styles (tone, line, constructive and structural figure drawing), proportions and surface anatomy (from photographs), The intervening hundred-plus pages are devoted primarily to showcasing Civardi's own excellent work with two models. The multitude of different poses presented should be of considerable help to anyone grappling with the challenges of gestures, perspective, foreshortening, shading, graceful renderings and artistic adjustments. One may wonder why the author hasn't gone into great detail about drawing technique. The answer is simply that that's thoroughly covered in his other books. I am honestly not much of an artist but I found this book very insightful. It provides detailed explanations and examples of the female nude in a lot of different poses and positions. It also explains a lot about what an artist needs to look for and be aware of in all those poses. With a little practice, I feel like I could draw a beautiful nude simply from memory and the technical details provided in this book.

I have mainly used this book as a guide for years but lost my original copy. I highly recommend this book for its variety of ideas and poses of the figure. Great source for sketching and creating your own ideas. His books are excellent teachers and a must have in your library.

I bought this book thinking that it will show me block style and the skeletal structure but it doesn't it just shows a bunch of poses. So if your looking for a book that shows you block style or skeletal structure move on because this book isn't it. But if your looking for a book that shows poses this book is it.
