Great book for young children
Fabulous, as all of Petr Horocek’s books are. My 3 year old loves it. It has also helped my 5 year old with his phonics. And of course, it’s beautifully illustrated

a lovely book for little ones at home & in preschool
I love a good, chunky baby-book and was delighted to receive Petr Horáček's Who Is Sleeping? (Lift the Flap)There's something truly special about lift-the-flap's. The interactive element, that quiet pause before a flap is lifted, the surprise in store, the repetition and the pure satisfaction of opening and closing those lovely cardboard inserts.... All of these elements make for a lovely multi-sensory experience. While this book is published in the 'Baby Walker' range, it can be enjoyed and shared into the preschool stages and beyond. With a simple story line, readers are asked to guess which animal is sleeping where......in the tree, under leaves, in the rushes etc.The pace is ideal, with one scene and animal character on each double-page spread, children have just the right amount of visual information to process. It makes for a lovely lesson about the animal world and their natural habitats. With minimal text in clear, dark font, the language is rhythmic and predictable- every page offering the same amount of words. For group settings, this predictable read-aloud, allows children to easily join in and become part of the story telling experience.Beautiful, true to life illustrations, easy to manipulate pages and a toddler-proof cardboard finish, makes this book a lovely all-rounder and perfect for one-to-one at bedtime, or circle time in preschool.Complimentary copy provided by Walker in exchange for an honest review.

Who is Sleeping? Lift the Flap to find out!
This is a simple board book, with a lift-the-flap element, which is always popular with young children. Each page asks ‘Who is sleeping?’ in various different environments – tree, pond etc… and lifting the flap reveals an animal. My two year old son really enjoyed this book. He liked lifting the flaps and telling me which animal he could see underneath and commenting a little bit on what he could see in the background – for example snow, water etc…I also read through it with my 4 year old daughter, who sat through it and named the animals, but then declared it was ‘a baby book’ and her brother could have it, so I would suggest around 18 months – 3 years is perhaps the best age range for this.As my son did enjoy this I would recommend this. It is a good prompt to talk about animals and where they live and the lift the flap part is appealing for young ones.*With thanks to Walker Books for providing a review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Subtly educational about literacy, habitats and animals, but fun and exciting for a older baby/toddler.
Petr Horáček brings his recognisable artistic style to this lift the flap book that is excellently educational whilst being fun. Each page is concerned with a creature sleeping in a different habitat, from a leafy forest, to a frozen tundra via the bayous or Everglades. Not only does this engage a older baby or toddlers motor skills by lifting the flaps but introduces new flora and fauna based vocabulary 'who is sleeping in the X' and each sturdy flap labelled with the creatures name. It is also a nice book to add to a unit collection for preschoolers and even ks1 children to warm up with to when introducing habitats and different environments to recognise different creatures live and adapted to different living conditions and the book could inspire some craft activities as they artistically create their own version of the book but with a different animal from the matching environment hiding under flaps. The language is simple and repetitive, good for anchoring knowledge of spoken sounds to the page and for older children recognition of words and rhythm repeating.Overall, an excellent well rounded book with lots of learning and skills development in a calm and quiet way, this is definitely being added to my list of go-to gifting books for the appropriate age group. Many thanks to Walker Books for the advanced copy for review purposes.
