Thanks for asking. You would not want to use a sour cream starter for yogurt. You would need a yogurt culture of which there are a few to choose from. Try this one (B01B2063Y8) for a sweeter yogurt or this one (B01L0HCVKS) for a rich, tangier, old-world style yogurt. Thanks!

Q: Is this a non gmo product?

It is a live bacteria culture. It is non gmo. The product works well with our Goat milk. Took a couple of tries to get it right, though :)

Q: Can you use these cultures with coconut milk for a dairy free sour cream?

Thanks for asking. Cheese or sour cream requires milk protein to form the curd and thick texture. You can add a cheese culture to impart some flavor but it will not 'set' like a dairy-based recipe. Non-dairy sour cream does not typically use a cheese culture and is acidified in other ways. For example, the acidity can be imparted with vinegar or lemon juice. However, using a cheese culture can impart some of the desired acidity. You will be able to find some recipes by searching for 'coconut sour cream'. Thanks!
