Not effective
Placed in pool to scare away ducks. Worked for a day and then ducks joined the gator head for a swim in the pool.

Does the job!
I was skeptical but the Alligator head did the job. Before, every day, a duck or ducks would swim in our pool. I loved the look of them but they "went" in the pool and, besides disgusting, fouled our robot cleaner. I installed Toby, our Alligator head, with scarey eyes, and, outside of a couple of incidents, he solved the problem. He also keeps me company when I'm vacuuming the pool.

Has worked great. Haven't lost a Koi since!!!
I bought the original design about 5 years ago after losing half my Koi from our pond. After the 3rd year, the eyes 'dulled' and didn't look real. (we lost a couple more fish---not realizing what had happened)I replaced it with a new 'Gator Guard' and all is well again. I would suggest replacing it after 2 or 3 years. I'm going to see if I can purchase the plastic eyes in the future & save some $$$.I live in Point Pleasant, NJ. This thing has saved my fish.Sorry to see that some people haven't had the same luck. Not only has it saved my fish, but keeps the ducks and heron and any other large birds from my property and above ground pool ever since. I let it float on the water and the water is always moving via the waterfall or the fish swimming. 5 stars from me!UPDATE--- You CAN purchase new eyes for these from Bird-X. I called them after I bought my 3rd one. Very economical. Now I have 3 Gator Guards doing a great job! :-)

Did not work well.
Looked like it would work. But some ducks didn’t have any fear of it. Found them in the pool with it ignoring it. Good conversation piece though.

Use rolled foam in box to keep afloat!
So far so good. Bought this to scare off a raccoon that’s been using our pool as a dump! On first attempts the head sank. What the instructions fail to mention is your need to insert the rolled foam pieces provided in the box! After I did this the head is floating PERFECT!! It’s a good quality product - but giving it 4 stars because the instructions fail to mention that the rolled foam inserts need to be used to keep it afloat.

Keeps the birds away
My swimming pool was attracting ducks which made a mess of the water. I've owned gator guards in the past and they wear out within one or two years. This guard is not solid but has a plastic frame which fits inside the shell of the gator body/head. It floats and works well. It keeps the birds away. My concern with all gator guards is the eyes are made of plastic reflectors (not glass) which dulls within two years. The gator will then lose it's effectiveness because it's the glare of the eyes that keeps the birds away not the gator head. So far I'm pleased with the product but would love to find one that has glass eyes not plastic.

Works on Egrits in pool
I was skeptical when I bought this gator for my swimming pool, but he's already proved his worth. I would say that the egrit birds sitting poolside, pooping and dipping beaks into the water, has decreased by over 90% since this fellow started handing out in my pool. My guess would be that if a bird is hungry enough, it'll still raid a koi pond with the gator present, but if that same bird is offered a choice between the neighbor's pool with no gator and my pool with a gator, it'll choose the other venue. The eyes look positively wicked with this gator, and I'm inclined to believe they're a big part of the reason he works so well. I'm a satisfied customer.

Floating Alligator Head seems to be working
Bought Floating Alligator Head to scare heron from eating fish in our small garden pond (approx. 12'X16'). We have seen heron fly over three times, but to our knowledge has not stopped to eat any of our fish. Before Alligator Head, the heron was a frequent visitor and ate many fish. We had stopped buying koi because he seemed to prefer them. When they were gone, he started on the goldfish.Easy to assemble. Staked to a pot in pool with approx. 3' length fishing line which gives room to move with flow from waterfall, wind and pump.
