Review from the International School of Uganda OLC Grade 7 Book Club
We read Ungifted in our Grade 7 Learning Support Book Club. I thought the book was a fantastic portrayal of a range of student abilities, and unconventional learners and would appeal to our readers (who don’t enjoy reading!). I loved it - it’s funny and relatable. Here are the student reviews (SPOILER ALERTS!): “I felt bored at the beginning then it started to be interesting but at the end I was unhappy because Donovan changed schools. I like the way the characters are, there is a mix of smart and lower people. The Ungifted book is about a boy that comes to a gifted school but he wasn’t suppose to go to this school. I would improve the book by putting something more mysterious. People that had challenges in school would like to read this book.” “I think people aged 10- 14 will like this book. What I liked about the story is when Noah got expelled and went to Donovan's School. Something that should be improved: maybe there should have being a love scene with Donovan and Chloe?” “In the beginning i felt thrilled because Donovan got in detention in the first chapter which i wasn't expecting - i thought it would begin with a happy beginning. In the middle towards the end i felt shocked to see that Donovan tried to help Chloe from the Daniels - he wouldn't do that in the beginning. I would have improved the book by putting something that would make it more shocking with something like a bad ending that nobody would be expecting. Maybe he commited a crime and and he would be arrested?”
