This really is a beautiful book which I purchased to start a book of shadows. The cover is soft leather and the little catch on the front finishes it off , making it look extra special. The only downside is the smell! I read previous reviews and they are all correct - I don’t know what it’s treated with but the smell is so strong I’ve had to keep it in a box with a cup of bicarbonate of soda (I’ve read that this helps remove odours). It’s been inside the box since it arrived 2 weeks ago and I think it’s slightly less smelly. Also the book is bound with leather laces which as you can see in the photo is already beginning to tear the paper a little. So you just need to be extra careful when writing in it and turning the pages. Despite all this I would still buy it because it is so gorgeous, you just need to get rid of that smell which would put me off buying it as a gift for someone.

Absolutely love this book! The plain paper is far better than lined, so I was very happy about that. It feels amazing to touch, very soft but durable. It does have a strong smell when you first open the packaging but that soon wears off after it has aired for a couple of hours. Well worth the money and exactly what I have been looking for!

The lock should be put the other way, if you are carrying the journal the lock tends to drop out. The craftsmanship of the stitching on the side is wrong. The quality of the paper is stunning, the cover of the journal itself is stunning too

It has a strong odour which does lesson with time. The paper is recycled paper, rough to write on, having said all this it was fine and fitted the purpose for why I bought it. It was for a work colleague who was retiring so that we could leave messages in it.

What a lovely book but sadly I cannot use it because of the awful smell and I have a lung problem. Cannot fault the craftsmanship and value for money. What a shame

The item is 'OK' but its not as described. It states that the paper is lined, but its not. I also expected the paper to be white, but its off-white/cream with mottled spots over the pages.Its nice, but its not what I ordered
